Elementary Teachers The ETFO members Federation of Ontario, would then be in a legal Halton unit president strike position 17 days after the report is issued, which could be as early as Dec. 10 or 11, said ETFO Halton president Marg Macfarlane. ETFO Halton, which represents 2,600 teachers and educational professionals, voted with an overwhelming majority (95 per cent) in favour of a strike mandate. "This means it's a very strong mandate and it confirms for us that our members are not happy with what the government is doing," Macfarlane said. The no-board request comes after months of protests against the provincial government's Putting Students First Act, which took away the bargaining rights of education workers, froze their pay for two years and cut into their benefits.
