'Mama Darlina' was in Toronto for the Nov. 7 Hope Rising Concert. She is a grandmother of six, all of whom she has cared for while their parents struggle with the impact of HIV and AIDS. A prominent activist, lobbyist and public speaker, Darlina counsels South Africans living with HIV/AIDS and TB, facilitates treatment literacy workshops, and motivates youths to educate, mobilize and raise awareness. She is on the boards of the Gender Advocacy Programme (GAP) and the Alliance for Children's Entitlement to Social Security (ACCESS). In 2006, Darlina represented the Treatment Action Campaign at the Grandmothers' Gathering in Toronto.
