The breakfast event is on Thursday, Nov. 22, from 7-9:30 a.m. at the Oakville Conference Centre, 2515 Wyecroft Rd. It is a celebration of the people who bring peace to the community. One youth, adult and group will each be recognized with a YMCA Peace Medallion for their commitment to building peace locally. West is known for his candid presentations about his struggles after he lost his legs at the age of five and how he has never lost the hope or cour- age he needed to overcome personal obstacles. West joined Me to We, the fundraising arm of the Toronto-based Free the Children organization and has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in a fundraiser for Me to We. West says he uses his difference and obstacles to help others overcome theirs. West's legs were amputated when he was a child as a result of a genetic disorder. However, growing up, he was surprised when someone used the word "disabled" to describe him. Throughout November, the YMCA is running Peace Week-related events.
