The 19-year-old Burlington native posted two shutouts in as many days last weekend, backstopping the Blades to a 4-0 win over the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex and a 3-0 triumph over the Orangeville Flyers Saturday in Orangeville. Buitenhuis, who has appeared in all 18 of the Blades' games this season (starting 17 of them), is now tied for the Ontario Junior Hockey League lead in shutouts with three. All three of those shutouts have come in the last seven game for Buitenhuis, whose 2.41 goals-against average ranks fourth in the league among goalies with eight or more starts on the season. Jonah Renouf had a goal and an assist while Stefan Leblanc contributed three helpers in the victory over Toronto Lakeshore. Patrick Chorse, Kris Bennett and Spencer Green also tallied for the Blades, with Buitenhuis making 19 stops. Saturday, Oakville got goals from Kyle Jenkins, Harrison Domagala and Renouf. Halton champ Red Devils won't represent region at OFSAA field hockey Despite winning the Halton Tier 1 championship this season, the Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils won't be one of two Halton teams representing the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference (GHAC) at this year's provincial girls' field hockey championships. OT was denied a return trip to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) tournament Thursday with a 1-0 shootout loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a team the Red Devils beat 3-0 in the Halton semifinals Oct. 18. The other GHAC rep for the OFSAA tournament will be the Nelson Lords, who OT edged 3-2 in the Halton final Oct. 22. The GHAC playoff format allows top-four finishers in Halton to face off against the top two teams in the Hamilton Catholic league.
