How to draw Artscene animator says: Disney animator John Kahrs visited Sheridan College recently where he spoke to the current crop of animation students about his craft. Kahrs is a graduate of an arts school in Halifax, Nova Scotia and got his first animation gig in New York when he was hired by Pixar. Over a period of 10 years, he worked on many films from as early as A Bug's Life to Ratatouille more recently. Hosted by the Goddard Private Client Group at RBC Dominion Securities, the evening of laughter is in support of Community Living Oakville, Kerr Street Community Services, Start2Finish, the Children's Aid Foundation of Halton and The Goddard Group Foundation. Event-goers are asked to wear, by popular demand, their finest denim and diamonds on Friday, Oct. 26 at The Oakville Centre for Performing Arts at 130 Navy St. Comedian Michael Somerville is the headliner for the evening. Somerville first tried standup comedy on a dare and was hooked thereafter. He has appeared at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, on TV's Comedy Central and The Apprentice, and has also performed in Las Vegas. The comedy show will also feature Canadian comedian and entertainer Graham Chittenden, who was a runner-up at the Just for Laughs Homegrown show in 2009, as well as a finalist at the Great Canadian Laugh Off. The pre-show reception begins at Jonathans of Oakville restaurant at 5:30 p.m. with wine and hors d'oeuvres, followed by the comedy show on the main stage inside the Oakville Centre auditorium at 7:30 p.m. -- the evening will also include some prizes and surprises, a live auction, and after-show gourmet treats served back at Jonathans of Oakville at 10 p.m. The annual event has raised $328,000 to date -- last year's event raised $89,000. The exhibit is open at Sovereign House in Bronte. Hawley is holding a two-day open house this weekend, 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 20-21) with homemade soup and bread. He will be joined by his colleague Lori Bryant. The pair teach Creative Flow Yoga, which was developed by Hawley as a means to release creativity. The exhibit ends on Oct. 24.
