Case will not set precedent Continued from page 7 Glen Oaks dedicating new garden Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens & Reception Centre will be hosting a special dedication ceremony for the unveiling of its new garden on Saturday (Oct. 13). The Our Lady of Fatima Portuguese Garden grand opening event will run at 2 p.m. A reception will follow. Along with the Lady of Fatima garden, the centre will unveil a new granite memorial donated by the Ontario Association of Portuguese War Veterans. Oakville Mayor Rob Burton reiterated an early position he had taken that he was not comfortable taking away something people had enjoyed for several years unless it was for a very good reason. Ward 6 Councillor Max Khan said Town staff had told him the situation was unique and was not precedent setting. With that, the majority of council voted to remove the dedicated bike lanes and bring back on-street parking for River Oaks Boulevard East. Ward 2 Town and Regional Councillor Cathy Duddeck, Damoff, Ward 4 Town and Regional Councillor Allan Elgar and Ward 4 Town Councillor Roger Lapworth voted against the decision. The removal of the dedicated bike lanes is expected to cost $5,000. The decision comes as Oakville prepares to host the Halton Active Communities Summit on Thursday, Oct. 18.
