Ford/CAW Local 707 largest United Way Oakville supporters ith dedication and enthusiasm, Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd. and members of CAW Local 707 give it their all each year as the Town of Oakville's largest United Way supporter. For many years, Ford Motor Company of Canada has been the recipient of the Thanks a Million Award, which recognizes companies across Canada who raise more than a million dollars for the United Way movement. Of that amount, last year, more than $430,000 -- which includes pledges, special events and Ford's corporate gift -- was contributed toward United Way Oakville's overall 2011 fundraising goal of $4 million. This year, Ford is aiming even higher. "United Way Oakville is so grateful to partner with Ford. The generous donations from the Ford employees help so many people right here in the community as well as build awareness of the needs in Oakville," said Brad Park, United Way Oakville CEO. 25 · Friday, October 12, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com W To make this year's fundraising extra fun, Ford employees will take part in various activities, such as Freezie Fridays, ball hockey tournaments, floor competitions, Lunch and Learns and the annual large-scale bake sale, with all proceeds going to United Way. To help with the United Way campaign, the Oakville Assembly Complex has sponsored Tim Batke as a Loaned Representative. Batke will work as part of the United Way team for a 16-week period to help support workplace campaigns, mobilize volunteers and create awareness about how United Way is working to build a stronger community for all. Along with these fundraising events, Ford recently participated in the Global Week of Caring where employees at the Oakville Assembly Complex delivered three Ford Econolines full of supplies and $1,200, and employees at Ford Corporate headquarters delivered five Ford Flexes and $160 for distribution in the community. Donated items included clothing, school supplies, baby supplies, new and gently-used toys, toiletries and gently used books. United Way Oakville helped distribute the donations to Halton Trauma Centre, Safteynet, and many more community agencies. Thank you to everyone at Ford Motor Company of Canada, the Oakville Assembly Complex and members of CAW Local 707 for your continuous generous support. -- Submitted by the United Way of Oakville The Regional Municipality of Halton Access Halton at: www.halton.ca Dial 311 Please contact us, as soon as possible, if you have any accessibility needs at Halton Region events or meetings. Waste Reduction Week in Canada October 15 to 21, 2012 Across the country, Waste Reduction Week in Canada raises awareness about waste management issues and the importance of practicing the 3Rs--reduce, reuse, recycle. Visit www.wrwcanada.com for more information. In Halton, there are many things we can all do to practice the 3Rs. Seniors' Centre Locations immunization clinics to Ontarians six months of age and over at the following times and locations. No appointments necessary. Visit or dial 311 for the most up-to-date clinic Reduce Buy only what you need. Reduce waste by avoiding unnecessary purchases. Rent or borrow items that rarely get used. Choose products that can be reused, such as rechargeable batteries, cloth napkins and reusable drink bottles. Items such as these don't have to be thrown away after they have been used just once. Buy all-purpose household cleaner, instead of buying many different ones for each cleaning role. Or better yet, make your own cleaner using vinegar and water. Eat leftover food and make just enough. Use leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day. Choose products with little packaging. That way, less packaging ends up in the Blue Box or Garbage. For those items you use regularly, buy them in bulk instead of in smaller amounts. This will save you money as well as reduce waste. Bring your bags! Use reusable cloth bags when shopping. Lug a mug. Bring a reusable travel mug to the coffee shop. Many offer small discounts for using a reusable mug too. Start a GOOS bin. Collect paper in a GOOS (Good On One Side) bin for reuse. Donate! Support local charities by donating reusable clothing that are in good condition.
