Team Brother Bear continues the heroic effort of Austin By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Addison Brasil was 19 when his younger brother Austin died after a lengthy battle with an inoperable brain tumour. After experiencing his own and his parents' grief, and inspired by his brother's own heroism before his death, Addison was quick to continue his brother's legacy. "I feel a responsibility and in large part that responsibility came from watching my parents heroically journey alongside my brother. When a child is diagnosed, an entire family is affected and involved and your entire dynamic of life switches in a second depending on the diagnosis and where you are in the battle," Addison said. "Austin inspired me when he held his own event at Loyola." While still attending St. Ignatius of Loyola Secondary School, Austin held a talent show, which raised approximately $5,000 for the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children's b.r.a.i.n.child fund. At age 17, Austin died on the day that would have been his first day of Grade 12 in September 2008. But his legacy continues to this day, as the 23-year-old Addison and the rest of his family are preparing for the fifth annual Team Brother Bear gala, which will take place at Le Dome Banquet 23 · Friday, October 12, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Georgy Tchaidze March 17 Valerie Milot October 21 Austin Brasil Hall on Friday, Oct. 19.
