A number of people are wondering how they wIlll announce their upcorning events. It turns out that many people in Brooklin, Ashburn, Myrtie, Maoedonian* Village and eise*'here go to bake sales," meetings or whatever, on the basis of what is written here. That this bit of scribbling has served a useful purpose is gratilying. I arn also appreciative of ail those over the past two years who told me that they thought so as weil. Despite the small size of our community, a lot of things were usually going on. As a resuit there han always been enough items te fil1 this colurnn each week. lI fact, more things are subrnitted than actually get printed because of spaoe limitations. Aithough I usually took the heat for it, I didn't get te, decide what items were dropped.' This space has also been a forum for. local issues of conoern. Moet of the residents I spoke te who were directly affected .- by this change said they 'knew nothing about it until it was teo late. Aithough the information was avaîlabie at the. local library and at the meeting, it was not what I considered a user friendly way for residents. The planning process is compiex and difficuit for any resident te have an impact on. I urged Brooklin residents te, pay more attention te, these processes, te attend more meetingsP te get copies of the zoning documents and even reported the view of one resident that we should formi a citizens' planning committee te let us know when important things are -bout te happen. But at no time did I say or intend te say that members of council oîr tewn staff acted improperly at any point in the process of oonsideing the zonîng change.
