Ho was 72. A son of the late Walter Franki MacCarl ,and Mabel, Frances Balsdon, he was bomn in Whitby on Feb. 16, 1924. .Mr. MacCarl started working in the store with bis father when Walter MacCarl purchased the hardware business on Brock Street South from Douglas Holiday in 1939. Ini 1945, after serving two years in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Ralph MacCarl became a partner with his father and purchased the store upon'bis father's retirement in 1967. In 1969 ho was awarded a Pro Hardware franchise by D.K. Howden Co. of London, Ont. M.MacCarl retired from the hardware business in October 1984, ending 74 years of hardware business in the store at 113 Brock St..S. Mr. MacCarl was a member of the Canadian Retail Hardware Association, and St. Mark's United Church, Whitby.> A ormer member of the Whitby Rotary Club, ho was club president in 1973-74., and served on the Whitby planning board and the board of governors of Whitby General Hospital. He was also a membor of David T. Campbell Lodge No., 706, AF and AM, and Royal Cana'dian Legifon Branch 112, Whitby. On, June 4, 1949, Mr. MacCarl was married in Oshawa to the former Doreen Hutcheson, who survives him. A daughter of the late Arthur Graben Hopper and Edith Mae Littlejobns, she was born in Whltby on July 26, 1918. Mrm. Parka was a homemaker and member of St. Mark"s United Church, Whltby. She ls also survived by brother Allan Hopper and sister Clara Wickens, both of Oshawa. Mrm. Parks was at the W.C.Town Funeral Chapel, Whitby where Rev.
