Organizer and musician Mike McGlvryhas planned îan "evolu- Downtown merchants raise funds for carnival Whitby downtown merchants recently raised $1,000 to be donated to the County Town Carnival. The fundraising event attracted a full house to The Lion and The Unjicorn Pub. More than 50 prizes,1 donated by 45 downtown retail and service businesses and with a total value of $1,200, were raffled. Whitby downtown businesses will also sponsor a pitclung cage as part of the carmival activities and are donating another $500 towards the cost of communit patrol for the three-day carnival. Many incividual downtown businesses are, as well, running their own events such as mini-golf; petting zoo, Brio-train play day, face painting, hair and makeup demonstrations and sidewalk salé. Merchants have also planted and are maintaining fiower boxes in the downtown core. Other carnival events that downtown merchants are'helping to organize are the Art on the- Green exhibit and the sidewalk art contest.
