The first game was a tight- checking affair with Wildcats triumphing 5-3. Goals were scored by Jason Connor (three), Andrew Lamiot and James Liske. Assists went ta, Brandon Bowler (two), Andrew Martland and Justin Hawe. Wildcats again turned in a strong performance in Oakvllle ta, take the* second gaine 4-2, with speedy centre Connor notching another hat trick. The other Whitby goal was scored by Hawe. Assisting on the goals were 'Martland (three), Lamiot, Fowler and Jeff Hass. Refusing ta go down in three straight, Rangers responded with a great effort in the third game last Monday in Whitby, winning 4- 1. The long Whitby goal was scored by Sean Kerr from Matt Annis. Wildcats responded with a strong defensive effort in game four, allowing very few quality shots on net, ta take the series and the championship with a 4-2 win. Goals were notched by Annis (two) and Connor (two). Assisting were Hass, Kerr and Martland. Strong performances between the pipes were turned in by goaltenders Chris Nemicz and Ian Uptan. Other memnbers of the team, sponsored by the Brooklin Lions Club, are defencemen Adam Thibodeau, Glen Corbin, Jeremy Brimble and Jeif Seedhouse, and forward Kevin Walsh, coach John Annis, assistant coach Bob Gamble, trainer Bruce Hawe and manager Doug Fowler. Wildcats now advance ta the round-robin ali-Ontario championship in Chatham April 12-14. OHF bronze for Whitby_ midget team The Whitby midget AAA hockey teamn won a bronze medal at the Ontario Hockey Federation Canada Cup. Any plans ta, advance ta, the gold medal game were abruptly halted Saturday by North York Canadiens who delivered a 6-1 loss, Rab Dancey with the only Whitby goal. The defeat put Whitby in the bronze medal finals -against Ottawa who were eliminated from the championship round by the New Liakeard, a northern Ontario regional team rated number one by-the OHF. .After 60 minutes of regulation time, Whitby and Ottawa were tied 4-4. Tom DaSilva ended'the tension early in the firet overtime period ta make Wildcats bronze medal champions. New Liskeard defeated North York 5-2 ta, win the Air Canada championship and wlll represent Ontario at the national finals in British Columbia. For many Whitby team members, it was the final organized minor* hockey game. Some will move on to junior A, B or C hockey; others will hang up the blades for good. The Whiitby team was sponsored by Hanet Plastics. Novices n-fal short in fmnals Whitby lost ta Central in the finals of the OMHA minor novice AAA championships over the weekend. In a two-game, total-goal final -îCentral won 3-0 and then tied 3r3 ta, take the OMHA titIs. 'Whitby had defeated Burling- tan 64 (gazne most valuable player David Mclntyre), Central 4-2 (James Neal MVP), tied Brampton 6-6 (Daniel Dempsey MVP) and battered Chingua- cousy 12-2 (Andrew Fari MVP) ta reach the finals. Dempsey and Neal were MVPs in the finals for Whitby. For the championships as a whole, Neal had ffive goals and eight assists, Luke Carson had six goals and two assists, Demp- sey four goals and three assists, Melntyre four goals and an ass- ist, Jool Weber two goals and four assists, Philip McBlhone three goals and, three assists, Adamni onst n three goals and two assists, Faric three goals, and Michael Trudeau a goal and an assist. FIELO LACROSSE Juniors win 3 -of .4 iFlorida tournament The Canadian junior men's under-19 field lacrosse team, which includes eight players from Durham Region, won three of four games at a taurnament in Florida recently. In thefr first game ever as a team, against Williams College of Williamstown, Mass., the Canadtians trailed by four goals at the half then roared back for a 12- il victary. They, defeated St. Lawrence University of Canton, N.Y. 17-10 and Colorado College, of Colorado Springs, Col., 14-1. In their stiffest competition, the Camadians lost 12-10 ta West Palm Beach, the Florida state senior men7s champions. Canadian team spokespersan Teniy Lloyd noted that the Florida senior nen's coach was impressed with the Canadian team's speed and quickness,. as well as the individual players' stick skills.
