Dymond diod at Port Perry Community Nursing Home on Feb. 21, 1996. He was 89. Son of the late John Richard Dymond and Anna Mary Bowle, hoe was born at Huntly, Scotland on Sept. 24, 1906. At age 15,, Mr. Dymond came to Canada alone on a ship and joinod his sister in Peterborough. He workod in a grocory store while attending Peterborough Collogiate and took night classes at a local YMCA. After marrying in 1930,- he worked part-time whlle studying modicine at Queen's University ini Kingston. Following hie graduation in 1941, he interned for a year at the former St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkdale, a suburb of Toronto. Ho. took the opportunity to set up bis own practice when a doctor i n Port Perry was selling out and- loaned him the money to start there. During the Second World War, Dr. Dymond joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and served three-and-a-half years as a battlefield surgeon in England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Hoý returned to Port Ferry in 1946 where ho served on the local council and high school board. Dr. Dymond- was ,elected te the provincial legislaturo as a Progressive Conservative MPP for Ontario ridlng (which included Whitby) in 1955, and served that riding until 1967 whon his riding wau changed bv redistribution. While serving as MPP for Ontario riding, Dr. Dymond laid the date stone for tho new Whitby municipal building (now the public library) in 1960, and' officially opened a -now nurses' residenoe at the Whitby Mental Health Centre in 1963. Following bis retirement as ninister of health, ho served as chair of the Ontario Sience Centre for the threo years. Dr. Dymond was at the Lowand Low Funeral Home, Port Ferry, whero the funeral service was conducted on- Feb. 24, 1996, followed by cremation. She married John C. Elliott in Whitby on'Nov. 6, 1953. She was a member of Ail Saints' Anglican-Church, Chancel Guild, Food Bank committee, and was a volunteer for the Red Cross blood donor clinie. She is survived by daughters Christine Elliott (and her husband Jim Flahert,jLaura Elliott (and her husband PloRue), Lee Eiliott (and her husband Austin Epema), Jody Ristow (and her husband Mark Ristow); grandchildren Lauren, Adrian, John, Galon, Quinn, Courtney, Connor, Chloe and Claire; sisters Mary Gouldbourn and Anna Neal; brothers George and Jack Town. She- was predeoeasod by her husband, sistor Audroy Pring and brother Harry Town. The funeral service was held from the W.C. Town 'Funoral Chapel on Feb. 16 at Ail Saints' Anglican Church.
