Tom DaSfilva scored thee goals and added an assist as Whitby edged the home teain 5-4 in the final of a tournament in Quinte. Dan Cioffi had the winning goal, on a set-up by Cory Haas who had previously scored twice, in a 5-4 win over Central Ontario in the semi-final that sent Whitby te the final. Whitby had previously won 5-4 over Hull, Que., 2-1 over Wellington and 7-0 over Grey- Bru.. It was the third tournament chaxnpionship of the season for the Whitby team, sponsored by Hlanet Plastics, that bas an overaîl record of 39 wins, four losses and a tie. Whitby will play in the Young Nationals Midget Showcase in Toronto Dec. 26-30 where the top teama fromn Canada and the U.S. wiIl meet. Ryan Farrow was most valuable player for Whitby in the final,* while Danny Caird was named MVPÎin the peewee division of the teurnament. Whitby had opened the teurnament with a 3-1 win. over Hillcrest, Tom- Ricica, Lucas Naylor and Ryan Farrow scoring, goalie Bryan Sand getting MVP honours. Nick Verkuyl had two goals, Ricica and Sean Newportthe others in a 4-3 win over Bownianville. Goalie Julian Owen was superb, Caird was gaine M.VP. Caird had three goals, Ricica and Verkuyl the others in a 5- 1 win over Orillia. Caird was MVP. Ricica had the overtime winner In a 1-O win over Richmond Hill1 in the semi-finals. Sand stopped 24 shots in net and was MVP. Other team members are Scott Beetham- Carl ffDirlo, Bob iplays tight end for Kent and has a toa-m-high 22 receptions for 266, yards and a touchdown. Anderson CVI bowed out in the quarter-finals of the Ontario high school senior boys' volleyball championship in Toronto over the weekend. Anderson, seeded sixth going into the tournainent, defeated Martingrove. (Etobicoke) and Widdfield (North Bay) before losing to, Brookfield (Ottawa) in pool play. With a 2-1 record, Anderson advanced to the quarter-finals but lost to, third-seeded Mary Ward (Toronto), 13-15, 10-15.
