The win placed Whitby in the semi-finals againat the u.ndefeated Connecticut Whirlwind, who had yet te, have a goal scored against them ini the tournament. Whitby got a jump start early in thé game as Engelage converted a chip pass from Mike Sebleiffer. Whirlwind tied the game late in The Whitby Raiders under-iS elite soccer team, sponsored by the Bank of Monteal and Kubota Canada Ltd., won the Salt City tournament in Liverpool, N.Y., over the July 22-23 weekend. Whitby began the tournamnent with a 2-2 tie againat Syracuse Blitz Bullets on goals by Mark Engelage and a 2-1 losa to Whitby peanut Champs Whitby's paperweight rep lacrosse team went unbeaten to win the championship of the Pelham peanut tournament. Doulgas Langlois scored six goals and Daniel Pogmore had four goals and three assista in a 13-1 win o ve r Niagara-on-the-Lake in the firet gamne. Alex Tilart had three goals. Tillart had four goals and Marcus Carrol twà ' in a win over Pelham. Pogmore, Andy Wreggitt and Kristofer Faric each had a goal. Whitby then prevailed 11-7 over. a tough Spartan teamn to reach the final. Mark Jeffery made key saves ini net helped by the strong defensive effort of Joshua Gray and Patrick O'Shea. Illart had four goals, Carrol and Pogmore three each, Langlois the other. In the final WhIitby faced Hamilton, the team that had knocked Wihitby out of the Scarborough peanut tournament. This time, however, Hamilton was no match as Whitby won 13-2. Carrol had five goals and two assista Tillart four goals, Pogmore two, oe each by Jeffery and Langlois. Joshua Gray had an assist. Mielders Eric Kolobutin, Mattin and Schleiffer played aggressively, continually , Gardiner, Reb Laba, Alexander Lacey, Bryan Mantle, Ryan Matthews, Mfitchell, Trevor Sommerville, Andrew Staff and Ian Witruk. The team is coached by head coach Terry Witruk and assistants Neil Staff and Carmen Deluca. The team is now preparing for an exhibition series in Rome, N.Y. and Cooperstown, N.Y. The squad will play an ail-star team made up from teams n the Rome Federal Little League that includes teams from Utica, Cooperatown and other centres in the area.
