Waterfiront Trail opens Sunday By Natasha Hlotchkisoa On Sunday, May28 David Crombie will- be mn hiby to officiaùlly ope themuncipaty's prin of theLae OnC Cobicommissioner of the WaterfrontRegeneraton Trse is making a trek alongr the 325 kilometre trail from Hailton to Trenton -- b y foot, c=ne, in-une skate and bke __ and joining residents from ea.ch municipality, along the trail. 1in conjunction with his visit, to begn at 10 a.m. at the Whitby Yacht Club, there will be several frot»te at the Whitby water- There will be tours of Lynde Shores Conservation Area and Thickson Woods open hous at the Whitby Yacht Club, fisbing and boatingdemonstrations and displays at Port Whtby Marina, colour party at Intrepid Park, barbecues at three locations along the waterfront, and an exhibition at the Station Gallery. A shuttie bus will be opeeratng (no cost) te move pope from event te event. Whitby's 5.7-kilometre portion of the trail was built ini less than aMe-Town had negotiated with Co-Steel Lasco and DuPont Canada for long-term leasing over 65 acres cf waterfront for part of the trail. On Sunday, Lasco will host 'Seeds of Opportunit.y by which those walk-ing, cycling or roller blading the trail will help plan!t grass and wildflower seeds as it crosses Lsco and DuPont pro- perdies. DuPént, IMtb>y Kinettes and Henry Street, High School stu-, dents will.hplp with the 'Seeds' event. The open house at the marina will include boat tours, canoe races, and a barbecue sponsored by the Port Whitby Sports Fish- .MgAssociation. The Whitby Rotary Sunrise club is sponsoring an 'Under the Big Top' barbecue event at Lake Park, il a.m. te 2 pin. Henry Street High School studentswi1 provde entertairnent. Art Heydenshore/Kiwanis park, plaques will be presented to, the coprate partners (Lasco, son's ed)trcgz hi involvement in the devlopment of the trail. Thickson's Woods Heritage Association will conduet a 'WalIk in the Woods.' VWhitby and Gordon Street and Lynde Creek. The entire trail will link 160 natural areas, 126 parks and promenades, 69 marinas and yacht clubs, fairs, museums, art galleries and historie features. .Crombie's trek began May 13 i Hamilton and ends June il in Trenton.
