While our senior boys' lacroese teain bowed out of the playoff, losng in overtime te McLaughlin's tough Trojan ide, our girls' lacrosse teani brightened the week by advancing te the LOSSA semi-finals by defeating Ajax 53. Austin's junior girls' soccer teain coacheci by Mr. Mflekuz, are also alive and kicking in their LOSSA playoffa as a 1-0 win over Bowmanville helpeci secure a semi-final berth against Dwyer. This ia a teain which la brimxing with confidence at the moment and it will come as no surprise te anyone here at Austin if they bring home the title. Ini other playoff action, our junior rugby teain tackled a stubborn Brock aide andi were unfortunate te lose by four points. Although their season ended on a losing note, the boys played with marvelloushspir\ and heart, elements w mckIll act as the team's backbone as they prepare for next year's tour in Irelanci. The track andi field team also battled liard at their LOSSA meet reoently. Amidet nxany zreat performances were those of RehMcCullough who took a silver andi a bronze in the 800m and 1,500m, and Es! Benyarku, Austin's formidable spriter, who breezed te gold metas in both the 100m andi 200m races. On May 25, the Austin gym plaed host te many local school bnsin a day at musical workshops. About 350 students from St. Mary's, Denis CYonnor, Dwyer, Pereymna and Austin participated in the day billed as 'Mlass Band' and they swapped musical tips while rehearsing for the ciax of the day's events where the bands joined as one and perfiormed two rousing pieces tegether. The much-anticipated Austin talent show was a hug success. With the cafeteria completely sold out, the performers displayed not only their undoubted talent but also showed great composure, refusing te be overawed by what was an enthusiastive and boisterous audience. A substantial amount of money was raised through ticket sales andi this money la intended for those, lesa fortunate in -he third world. With sumnier just around the corner, Anderson students are anxiouy counting down the final days of th e sehool year. On Tuesday, the nidget boysd rugby tearn played Dunbarton in the LOSSA semi-finals. Andersohn came away with a 15-5 victory. The team was led by Ryan Flesch with two tries and John Norris with one. In the all-Whitby final, Anderson played a tough team from Henry Street, and for the first tme in seven years Anderson won the LOSSA chaxnpionship with a dramatie 12-5 victory. Dan Gibson scored the decisive try and Ryan Flesch scored on a beautiful play by John Norris. Mark Wriker pitched in with a convert. The backs played solld defense the entire game. The total teoin effort was the reason Anderson won the championship. Well done, boys- Good luck to the Anderson basebail teamn as they enter the playoff series this weekL On behaif of the graduates, thanks te Mr. Freeman, Leaf Worsley and the prom committee for an uriforgettable Prom '94. Al of their bard work and dedication over the past seven months paid off on Friday night. Mark Rainey and Leaf Worêley were crowned prom kingc and queen, while Trerrance Balazo and Y.m Mathers became the new prom prince and princeas. Steve Jones was mxade class clown and Danielle Johnson was voted the person with the moot achool spirit. lIn the most likely te, succeed category, Krsten Stevens and Darcy Parker were the winners. Jacki Allen and Paul Hurley became the couple most likely te, mary. The most likely te go bald award went te Greg Walker. The biggest flirt nominations went te Lori Carnegie and Steve Bing, while Cort Fowler and Lisa show staged recently by English anTd drama teachers at Anderson CVI. On Saturday, Anderson's senior jazz ensemble, Anderjazz, will perform at the Brooklin Spring Fair. Drop by the arena at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday te, hear some great tunes. Baker goes to camp Henry Street High School Grade il student Adrienne Baker has been selected te attend the fourth annual National Trust Leadership in Volunteer Efforts (LIVE,) residential volunteer camp at Canadore College in North Bay. Only 30 students were selected across Ontarjo. Students selected have a strong histery of volunteer activity. Ail were nominated by their school principal. According te Henry principal Ed Grant, "Adienne has demonstrated strong leadership abilities." The te 5. camp will be held June 2 JLucie Rochette CHARLES GARNIER Bonjour. The achool year is rapidly coming te an end. There are only a couple more weeks te gro before summer vacation. Since the end of the school year ia so near, there ia a lot going on. FIrst off, congratulations to the students who participated in FESF'O's recent academic «'Olympica.' Our students did very well, coming home with several gold medals in categories auch as art, French and others of the kind. Way to go, guys. Thursday, May 26 was a non-uniform day. The student goverrnment had planned a day of fun with "mini lympica," but, unfortunately, it rained on our parade, so te spealc. So it was a day of regular classes, and the activities were put off until Friday, May 27. They were a lot of fun. Different groups of students were competing in high jump, obstacle courses, three legged races and "double dutch" skipping te name a few. The day was a blast. Thanks te the student governinent for organizing such a great day, and congratulations to the wnning team. Thursday evening, May 26 was our last school dance of the year. The III was Garnier student Marc Plourde, along with some-of bis friends. The dance had a suminer therne, and it was a lot of fun. Monday, May 30 and Tuesday, May 31, the gracia went on their annual retreat te Manresa, a monastery in Pickering. Now, since the end of sehool ia so near, it is the turne to caxuP.ign for school elections. Several people have already started advertising their canipaign in the hallways, and we will hear a lot more about the subjeet this week, as studenta prepare to cast their votes. There la a lot of talk going around school about two events that are going te happen in 7ne The first one is the prom, of course, and the secind one is the Kingsize concert. Kingsize is a local band whose members ail attendèd Saint-Charles-Garnier this year. ingsize will perforni on %rdgy, June 10 at L'Amicale in Oshawa. The opening band wil be Black Glass, another Garnier band. ickets are $5 and are available at the school, or by contacting any member of both bands. Well, gotta fly.
