After that date, hours of ser- vice will be 8 a.m. ta 10 p.m. In the event of an emergency between 10 p.xn. and 8 a.m.., Whitby residents are urged ta go ta Ajax & Pickering General Hospital or Oshawa General Hospital. The hospital announoed in January there would be reduced hours. Prompted by a ireduction in provincmai govermnment funding, hchanqe s e* eted ta save the hospîtal between $250,000 and $30 0O00 annually. There will be no loss of jobs, but some part-time employees will work fewer haurs. Some cost-cutting measures were 'mplemented before Christ- mas and helped ta reduce the hospital's deficit. New look inhospital 's 25th year With help from some very generous sources in the com- munity,» there will be a new look ta, Whitby General Hospital ta begin its 25th anniversaryyear. New carpets are being instal- led and the cafeteria is being renovated, and a donor recogn- tion system will be established -- coinciding with major infrastruc- ture changes at the hospital. Elizabeth Barton chief execu- tive officer at the hspitaI, and Marc Kealey, vice president of community, relations and deve- lopment, it say the hospital has endured a "tired image" for years. «This is a new era we are èntering, times are changing and wevegot ta, keep up witt them," says Lfaey ITins new image is a state- ment of purpose -- it shows strength,» says Kealey. Bartan says the hospital was fortunate ta receive money ta, pay for the caryets and renovated cafeteria -- "we've been very for- tunate." Renovations are expected to be completed on the first floor by the end of March. T'he donor recognition systemi will be known as the Tree of Life, ta, recognize those who have donated to, the hospital. Local artists will ereet the Tree of LAf in upcominig weeks. «We are tackling change head- on with a very positive attitude, and the staff, volunteers, physi- cians and communit have Iod us they like what's happenig," says Kealey. The Whitby Optimist Club recently presented $2,000 ta, the volunteer coordinators at Whitby General Hospital. The donated funds Mll o, aa bursary fund and toward pur- chase of awards for Volunteens, youth volunteers at the hospital. The awards are g*ven ta recog- nize the hours of service by Volunteens at the hospital. An appreciation dinner ls also held for Volunteens. "The Whitby Optimist Club has been a strong supporter of the Volunteen program at Whitby General Hospital for many years," states Eileen Fair- weather, a Volunteen coordinator at the hospital. Britt Hayne of the Optimists recently presented the funds to Fairweather and Norma Gardon, also a Volunteen coordinator.
