The' freshly-painted halls of Sinclair Secondary. Department heada were fortunate ta ur the school sknce we last met, and the blending of these colours, taken from the Sinclair tartan, is sure ta impress.,I know when we vsited aur local elementary schools and mentioned this colour scheme, some of you didn't want Wo even think about the possibility. Trust me ... ite is a very pleasant combination and these sanie colours are also aur house colours -- the colours of aur organizational structure. Some of you might be famillar with the house s"stem, but for thase who are not, just a few words. The student population will be divided into t he four groupings. Imagine yourself in Grade 9 belon * tW a school faniily compo f a staff mentor and other Sinclair students eventually from, grades 9 Wo OAC. Activities will challenge each house in a friendly competitive nature, from fundrai sers, fitness marathons, attendance records, food drives, special curricular events. Houses will plan for and spowr activities Wo involve Sin-clair students and create achool spirit. Staff sponsors and mentors will be associated with each house. Mentor groupe of approxi- mately 12 students will meet daily with their staff advisor Wo plan for activities, arrange for special help or support if needed and deal with concerns as they arise. With the ratio 12:1, your odds for success and communication with the home really imprave. What about school colours? Well, what about them? Have you submitted your ideas ta your school office yet? For those of you who don't know, the mascot of the early Sinclair School was a beaver and the school colours were green and gold. The arts teani of Sue Selby, Susan Jones and Bruce Court will present a unique programi that will include our family of schools and provide opportunities for growth and performance in all areas. With a musical mayor just south of Sinclair, there is a wealth of comrnunity talent Wo draw upon. Mayor Tom, we are a community-based achool and we look forward W aour firat recital. Bands, choirs, art exhibits and eventual instalations of student project work, dance and drama will ail be included in an ex citinfi integrated arts program availabe ta all students. Need I say more?
