Bain is one of the founding members of the Thickson's Woods Heritage Foundation that worked to protect and beautify the 16-acre remnant of the forest and wetlands that once blanke- ted the north shore of Lake Ontario. A developer who owned the land sold the logging rights and harvesting began. Bain and other localÎ naturalists appealed to ail levels of government to stop the logging, but the work continued. A down payment w as hastily raised b y ain and others and the lands were then purchased from the owner. Hundreds of residents became involved and the five-year mort- gage was eventually paid off.
