This review is being conducted pursuant to the requirements of the Class Environmental Assessment for Municipal Sewage and Water Schedule C Projects. The Region bas just completed Phase 2A of this Class E.A. and in consultation with a Public Consultation Workshop Committee has selected a preferred sludge management alternative to manage the Region's sewage sludge during the winter months. The preferred winter sludge management alternative is the storage of sludge using enclosed tanks Iocated on or adjacent to one or more existing sewage treatment plant sites. 1. Public Information Centre The Region will be holding a Public Information Centre to present the results of the preferred sludge management alternative selection process. The Region will also present the proposed preliminary site screening and evaluation criteria. The potential candidate sites would be in the vicinity of the major Water Pollution Control Plants serving the urban areas of Whitby, Oshawa, Courtice and Bowmanville. The Region's project team will be aveilable to review the results of the Phase 2A study, answer questions and receive your comments. The Public Imiformation Centre will be held on October 28, 1993 from 3:00 p.ni. to 5:00 p.m., and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in room B15 of the Regional Headquarters building, located at 605 Rossland Road East in Whitby. 2. Public Consultation Working Committee It is proposed that a working committee be formed with repres entatives from the Public and interested parties te participate in the site selection process. A specific role of the working committee will be to review and comment on the proposed site screening and evaluation criteria. Background information will be provided te alI participatnts prior to the working committee meeting. The first working committee meeting is szheduled to be held on November 9, 1993.
