Ryan Sufrin, 19, a graduate of Father Leo J. Austin Cathalic Secondary Schaol, and Neil Henehan a graduate of Arch- bishop benis O'Connor High School, accepted those scholar- ships from among several that were offered. Sufrin, who was a member of the Scarborough Azzurri teani that won lat year's under-18 national championship, says ha will receive a $15,000 scholar- ship for his first year -- he will have ta pay the remaining $2,000 of the $17,000 cost for first year. "The success af my firat year will determine (the amount of scholarship) second year,» says Sufrin, who would like ta take a four-year program. of studies toward a career in animation or graphic arts. Sufrin and Henehan were offered schalarships by several U.S. schools and Sufrin had hoped %fr a lull ride," meaning a scholarship to cover aIl his tuition casta. The new floar, installed by the Centaur Floor Company, replaces the original rubber sur- face, in the gym since the facility was built in 1977. Proceeds froni the athletie department's weekly varsity bingos provided much of the fun ding for the new floor. The new floor fentures signifi- cant changes ta, court lines for basketball and volleyball while still catering ta major high school even ts and badminton. The floor also has a centre court logo, and logos in the end zone area. Selects edged in shootout A Whitby under-7 select teamn lost 2-1 in overtime to Pickering in the final of a soccer tourna- ment in Uxbridge recently.
