The committee is allowirig a maxi- mum of 30 entries for each night. The dernolition derby will take place on Thursday, June 3 and on Saturday, June 5, with 8 p.rn. starts for both. On Thursday night competitors will be local people from the Brookln and Whitby area. On Saturday night <they corne from Oshawa, Peterborough -- some corne from quite a ways," says Werry. As with every other year, the demo- lition derby will take place on the ~4-~ racetrack at the fairgrounds. Competitors will have 45 feet by 200 feet of rnud in which to bang around. "It can be any Arnerican-made, hardtop car or station wagon," explins Werry. Other requirements for those com- peting are removal of the gas tank, to be replaced by a three-gallon steel tank Iastened securely; removal of al glass, tail lights and chrome mould- ings- and drivers cannot bit the dri- vers; doors directly. Competitors must also keep up phy- sical contact with oLher drivers. if a vehicle staîls, the driver must have the vehicle running and mobile again within 30 seconds or else face disquali- fication. "Other than that, we just let them go at it," says Werry. Thrill Show Professionals Ltd. will ho judging the demolition derby this year. Four judges in ail will represent the company and the top two in each heat and the overaîl winner of the derby wiIl win cash prizes. There is a total of $800 to be won. The entry fee is $22, and those interested in com peting may contact the fair board at 723-8602 and ask for Werry.
