A golf tour for juniors will be bheldtloally this summer. The Durham/Northumberland Junior Golf Tour begins June 26 with a qualifying round for 100 juniors (,aged 18 or under as of Se Pt. 1, 1993) et the Delewood Gof Club in the Port Hope area. The top 60 will qualify for the seven-event tour th et begins et Thunderbird in Ashburn on July 6. The cost for the quelifying round is $20, and those in the top 60 will each pay another $80 for the tour, for those who want to compete on a level playing field with no handicap. For each event juniors are awarded points. The junior with the most points et the end of the tour is the overaîl champion. There will be a banquet for plarers (and their parents) at the endof he our. Te champion will receive a green dress jacket with the championship crest. The idea for such a tour was conceived over the winter by John Uprichard and Mark Row- land. Their performances helped the Whitby club finish fifth among the 15 clubs competing Two Whitby club members also hed top-four finishes at a 'Duath- Ion' in St. Catharines on Ma y 8. Mike Sigsworth of Witby, e student et OTNeill CVI and Ontario champion triathlete lest year in the age 15-16 division, won the under-20 division of the duethlon (10k run and 40k cycling) and was seventh overal in the field of 250. Anderson CVI student, was fourth in the under-20 division. Triathlon competition begins later when the water is warmer for the swim portion of the event. Both Sigsworth and- Taylor swim up to 20,000 metres a week with the Whitby club as they- train for future com ptition and aim for a spot on th e national team. Crowder 2nd Jennette Croucher of Whitby was second in a women 's race- walk competition in Welland recently. Croucher was the second- yungest competitor in the Wel- and Women's 5km Open Race- walk. She had a time of 30 minutes, 27.3 seconds for the distance, a personal best. Croucher is a member of the OshaWa Legion Track and -I'ield Club. Walking horse clinie The "first annuel walking borse clinic" will be held et Cbestnut Hill, *just north of Leaskdale (north of Uxbridge), on May 29 and 30. The clinic will be beld by the Walking Horse Association of Canada East, p art of the Tennes- see. Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association.
