This ovent will be an opportumity to see the stromgest high school track and field athletes in Ontario competimg in Durham Region. But many of the best competitors will be seen at the LOSSA meet where mamy former and potential ali-Ontario medalists will be taking to, the field. Only the tep four in each evont will advance to the regionals that will also take place at Civic Fields (May 26 and 27). The followimg is a brief look at the Whiùtby schools and their athletes. Hlenry Street With a large midget representation, the teain is youmg and oager te competo. The teain also has some of the best and most seasoned athletes in high school track and field. - Two of the very best 110mn hurdlers ia the province corne froin this one school, Jason Brumloy and Jason Bacchiochi, each of them OFSAA gold medalists in this event and both seniors this year. Placing first and second rospectively, they led a Durham Region tep-five swoep in the finals of the sprnt hurdles at the prestigious sflodild relays in Ohio last month. In what could be a preview of the OFSAA finals, they will'both be competing at LOSSA with Pickering's Kyle Robinson, 1992 OFSAA senior boys' 110mn hurdles champion and third-place finisher at Mansfield. Jon Hopkins, silver xnedalist in the long jump last year at OFSAA as a junior, is training hard te repeat his success in his flrst year at the senior level. Look for hlm also in the triple jump. A fourth-place finisher at OFSAA last year, he is a contender in the 1993 championships. In the distance event, Henry is well ropresented by Greg Smith. Last yoar's junior gold medalist at LOSSA, ho returns as a junior and can ho expected to give fine performances this season in the 1,500m and 3,000m races. OFSAA junior gold modalist last year, ho set a new record at the Mansfield relays last Apil, out-jurnping the former mark by 30cm. He will face dloser competiten at LOSSA in the 110mi hurdlos. A 1991 gold medalist as a midget and fourth-place junior finisher at OFSAA in 1992, ho will ho going up against Pickering's Dion Trowers who took third at OFSAA last year and has edged hlm out at Mansfield and at the Queen's University invitational this year. Another promnisag Jumper is senior boy Andrew Channer. New to long jump just last yoar, he won at this year's St. Mfiko's invitational and at Queen's University where ho ostablished a personal best and established a meet record at 7.08m. This kind of distance could put him within medal possibilities at OFSAA. Last yoar's LOSSA gold medalist in the 400m, silver medalist in the 200m and bronze medalist in the long jump, she is a repeat finalist at the O0SAA championships and is capable of strong performances. This year's LOSSA will see Stephanie Duffy, a second-yoar junior in the 1,500m and 3,000m races, competing once again against McLaughlin's Melissa Hopkins, 1992 OFSAA silver medalist ia midget girls' 3,000m. Those two rivais have also had much experioenco in OFSAA competition and should mun exciting races against oach other. Last year's midget boys' 400m champion at LOSSA, Donnis Thomas returns as a second-year midget. Hopes are high that ho will do well again in the 1993 season. Father Leo J.
