Playing their best ringette this season, Whitby won four straight gaines, including a come-from- behind victory over Pickering in the final. In their first game against Oshawa, Whitby outscored Oshawa 9-5. The next gaine against an improved Ajax tearn, Whitby skated away with a 3-1 win. In the last gaine of the round-robin against Pickering, Whitby played a strong defensive gaine to, pull eut a 3-2 win. In the final against Pickering, Wihitby fell behind eariy 4-1 but fought back te close the gap to 4-3 after one period. In the second period Whitby started te outskate Pickering, and proceeded te outscore them 4-2 in the second period to take the championshiàp 7-6. This victory was a total teain effort as Junior badmiunton finals held The Whitby junior badminton club held its final session on April 15. Coinetition finals were Elayed and mari parents were on and te wiitch the gaines and give support. There was soea flerce competition in the final gaines, and the'spectators were treated te some excellent play. Many of the juniors were in their first season of badminton. The awards were presented by Ted Feather, at the conclusion of the events. The Paul Sharrock trophy, for the club's most improved player, was awarded to Joanne Ward. The championship and top player trophy was won by Rebecca Griffiths. Other trophies were awarded te, individual winners, Peter Danforth, Alex Payne, Debbie Street, Phiilip Bennington and Allison Dalby. The VWtby junior badminton club pîmys at Stephen Saywell Public School and is a member of the Central Ontario Badminton Association. Scoring for Whitby mnajor peewee seleets, sponsored by Biades Custom Skate Care, won the Shamrock hockey tournainent over the weekend by winning an exciting final gaine against Penetang 4-3 in overtime. 1Whitby started the tournainent with a 3-2 win over Optimists hold junior golf tournainent The Whitby Optinist Club wil once again sponsor a junior golf tournaînent rit Winchester Golf Club. The tournainent will be held on Saturday, May 8 starting rit il a.m. The cost of entering the teurnament will be $10. Prizes and a barbecue lunch will ho offered at the conclusion of the day. The top two iow gross scores in the age 12-13, 14- 15 and 16-i7 groups will be entered in the centrai Ontario championships te ho played rit the Chedoke Golf Club in Hamilton on June 25. Those golfers who have net reached their l'3th birthday by July 30 cari enter the tournament by calling Walt Soetens at 668-8460 anytime in the evening. Entries will ha restricted te the first 60 golfers. Entries close May 4. Jerry's were Mackenzie with a hat trick, Steigerwald with a pair, Cotter and Henry with singles. Assists went te Sean Paddison and Henry. Tyler Fruin was strong in net. Advancing te the finals, Jerry's tangled once again with Sign Images and skated te a decisive 6-3 victory and the title . of tournament champions. Bruinsma played strong in net. Goaîscorers were Cotter with a Chinguacousy. Brady Blakely opened the scoring for Whitby on a set-up frein Ryan Peacocke and Joei Gingras. Whitby went ahead by two goals when Chad McKenzie scored on a pass frein Stephen Corey. Chinguacousy fought back in the gaine with two quick geais before Wayne Richard scored the winner late in the third period. Whitby's second gaine was against Ajax and was a hard-fought game. Derek Powers had a great gaine, scoring two goals, whiie Lars Clay, Derek Van Egmeond and McKenzie scored once each. Joshua Williams and Ryan McCarron picked up assists in this gaine. The seini-finai gaine saw Whitby play Unionville. Whitby started slowly in this gaine but put thuir <flènce into high gear and skated away with a 6-2 victor-y. Brian Crilly, Stephen Mace, Biakeiy Powers, McKenzie and Richard ail scored in this gaine. The ch-ampionship gaine wns a fast-paced contest which was stili tied afler regulation time. Joey Simonetta and MeKenzie each scored for Whitby, before Crilly scored with 41 seconds remaining te tie the gaine. Richard scored the game-winner three minutes inte sudden-death overtime te give Whitby the chanipionship.
