Young Whitby Atoms are edged in Buffalo final Whitby Dodd & Souter major ateni 'B' team participated in the Buffalo Hornets teurnament this past weekend, narrowly losing in the championship final, 3-2 to Aurora. Whitby got off on the right foot Friday night as they handed Etebicoke Canucks a 5-1 setback. Bilan Crilly paced the attack with a pair of goals while singles came from Scott Young, Paul Gray and Grant Souter. Crilly also picked up an assist while other helpers came fron Mike Cartwright and Josh Williams. The second gaine aganet Scarborough Bruins was a sueake as Whitby persevered for a 2-1 victery. Brent Johnson was outstanding in net and goalscorers were Young and Souter. Ryan McLeod, Bryden Denyes and Dan Thorne all picked up assiste in the wnigeffort. Galtender Rich Sanders stonewalled Burlingten as Whitby rolled te a 5-0 win in their third gaine. Thorne lead the parade with two goals and two assista, while Wayne Richard and Souter eac~h picked up a. goal and an assist. Young, with a strong short-handed effort, slammed home a Crilly pass te, round out the scoring. In their next- contest, Young continued with the hot hand as he scored two more en route te a 4-1 win aver Markham. Thorne and Gray also scored along with assists froin Derek Van Egmnond, Denyes and Crilly. Gray put on a one-man penalty killing show as he frustrated Markham by ragging the puck for close te the duration of one Whitby penalty. Johnson continued with a stand-up effort, narrowly missing out for his shuteut bid. Tie final contest matched Whitby against last year's all-Ontario champions, Aurora. The game was a seesaw affair and r 'eally could have gone either way. Sanders was spectacular in net while only Gray and Crilly could find the mark on Aurora's great goalie. Crilly and Gray also added assiste while a single helper came from Young. Solid defensiye efforts throughout the weekend were made by John Lang, Lars Clay, ITyson Peel, Adami MacCarl, Ryan McLeod, Mike Cartwright and, Jooli Williams.
