WHITY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, DECEMER 6,1989, PAGE 15 Tree of Hope Day Dec. 9 STU CRAIG, Downtown Business Improvement Area manager, and Lynda Lawson, marketing assistant, have been coordinating the cvents for the downtown Christmas festival from their new office at 101 Brock St. S. "lIt's great - it's four times bigger than our old office," said Craig. On Saturday, Dec. 9 many of the Whitby conimunity organizations and charity groups will be downtown to raise funds for those who are less fortunate. The participants will set up tables in the downtown from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For a minimum $1 donation, members of the community will receive a colored light bulb to put on the Christmas Tree of Hope, which is located at the Whitby Public Library. Each donation will replace a white bulb on the tree. The goal is to change all the white bulbs Craig tak«&es new j ob After -two years as manager of the Downtown Whitby Business mprovement Area ( B IA), Stuart Craig will be leaving the position Dec. 23 to take up a new job in Ajax. Craig will complete his duties of the busy Christmas schedule organized hy the BIA in the downtown. A graudate in urban planning, Craig's new job will be with the planning department of the T'own of Ajax where he resides. that are now on the tree to colored bulbe by the end of the day. The Witby General Hospital Auxiliary will be located on Brock St. S. in» front of the Bowman & Gibson building. The funds raised will be added to the hospital building fund. The Arthritis Society-Durhain Chapter will be situated in front of My Dad's Store on Brock St. S. The donations that they will collect will be used in the treatment of patients suffering from the disease. The Lung Association of Durham Region will be selling colored bulbe ini front of the Van Belle's Floral Shoppe, located at the four corners, and at Miracle Food Mart (601 Dundas St. W.). While visiting Pearson Lanes, shoppers can donate to the TRAOK ogaiation (Therapeutic Riding Aociation for Challenged Kids). This association provide horseback riding to physically. mentafly and learning disabled children in Durham Region. The association aids approximately 50 children and two sehool classes. The funds raised during the Tree of Hope -Day will be used to purchase adaptive riding equipment for the children. The members of the Optimist Club of Whitbywill be setting up a booth at the Whiùtby Public Ià brary. The Optirnists, whose motto is 'riend of Youth," will be donating their funds to support muscular dystrophy research and support programs.
