Reps win tournarnent Whitby Iroquois under-il rep soccer teaxn defeated Thornhifl 3-O in the final to capture the Peterborough challenge tourna- ment June 24-25. The Whitby. squad won alI five ganues they played for their firet tournainent victory. Mark Williams, Kwami Waife- Annoh and- Michael Tucl<er scored while Mark Burns got the' shutout in a 3-O win over New- market in the first game. Lewis Chekaluk scored three goals, Johnathen Allen scored twice and Jeff Maclean had a single in a 6-2 win over Bramp- ton. Chekaluk and Allen scored in a 2-1 decision over Thombhili in Whitby's third game. Allen scored twice and MacLean once in a 3-2 win over Nepean in the semi-final.. In the final Waife-Annoh struck first for Whitby and then set'up Allen's sixth goal of the tournament to give Whitby a 2-O lead. Strong midfield play b y cap- tain Maclean and thie efence prevented attacks by Thornhill. MacLen scored on a penalty shot to complete the scoring. In a June 15 league jgae Chekaluk scored three goal ane Maclean once in a 4 -2 win over Ajax.' Allen set up Chekaluk with a great pass to open the scoring. On. Opened by June and Frank Moinar, the club will cater to the recreational gymnast rather than those wanting to compete. "Ninety-five per cent of kids don't make it as competitors," said June. The club will- hav e eight in- structors and if a student shows a high ability, Moînar said he or she will be directed to a competi- tive club. There are 120 kids enrolled for the summer courses and 30 for the faîl.
