TEAM IN FINAL Under- 13s win tournament A Whitby under-13 field lacrosse tearn, in only its first year of play, defeated a Mary- land team to capture a tourna- ment over the weekend at Osh- awa Civic Fields. The Warriors,1 believed to be the first under-13 field lacrosse teami ever assembled in Canada, got three goals and five assists from Wayne Primeau to get p ast Cockeysville Blue JaLys of May- land 11-9 in the final. "We had a very good third quarter,» said co-coach Bill Lang- ley who coaches the Central Coflegiate Institute field lacrosse team a perennial powerhouse in Ontari*o high school lacrosse. The teamns were tied 5-5 at the haif, but Whitby outscored the Jays 3-1 in the third quarter on their way to victory. Strong, from the Winstonette gyninastics club, won both the comnpuisory and optional sections to finish first overail in the nationals held May 18.21 in Edmonton. She won the vauit and uneven bars and was second on balance beani and floor exercises. Her highest marks were 9.8 out of 10 for both optional in vault and optional in uneven bars, and her lowest mark was 9.05 on compul- sory for beain, but the latter mark was stili good enough for second place.
