PACdE 4, WHiTBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1989 Whitby, Oshawa feud over extension A feud may be arising between Whitby and Oshawa over the connection of Manning Rd. in Whitby to Adeaide St. in Osh- awa. Sides were drawn at Iast Tues- day's works committee meeting with Oshawa councillors Linda Dionne and Jim Potticary demanding Whitby pay to extend Manning to the Oshawa-Whitby border. The extension is expected to cost $3.3-million. Dionne said Oshawa had extended Adelaide to the border, thinking Whitby was going to further extend M anning. The extension cost the Town $1-million. S"That road won't be built if you are i to take that attitude. Wened an arrangement bet- ween Whitby, Oshawa and the Region," Brunefle told Dionne. Works commissioner Bill Twel- vetrees said the road wilI be needed in the near future to move trafflic east/west. He told committee the exten- sion would be costly because Whitby would have to build a bridgee over Corbett Creek to reach the border. Hie suggested the Begion con- tribute to the cost of the exten- sion. "I don't believe Whitby is going to do it," said Twelvetrees. "That road now belongs to the Town of Whitby. It is not a regional road. Adeaide was extended to the border at Osh- awa's expense," replied Dionne. %J E% V'S.I-LA 'PRCESA 3I ~ ERY' EP~ - WITH AWAGON FULL 0OF LOW PRICES *-~ '~These Low Prices in effect at Whitby Lowp brlces in effeot uritil Sat.
