Renovations discussed FROMPAu il larly."P) Media coverage of renovation in Nelson was constant, which school tours were conducted to show the work. "It's a people's town," Honegger said. Applications can be made to the Ontario government for two types of grants: designated struc- ture grants grants up to $3,000 matching the owner s expendi- ture on renovation, and cor- porate structure grants, grants up to $10,000 matching the owner's expenditure on renova- tion. "They're not the easiest to get, but they are there,» said Tom Lemon, another member of the design resource team who over- saw renovation in downtown Seaforth and who also owns a building there. Some renovations, he noted such as roof repairs, are a capital write-off. Major work may in- crease the market value of the property. He advised Whitby owners to discuss building im- provements with their accoun- tants. "Small town Canada is intact," said Honegger. "These are assets, let's use them."
