The property had been a subject of controversy stemming from pre- vious residential applications, one by the Durham Region Non- Profit Housing Corp. for 65 block townhouses that was halted after a sales agreement dispute. BOATS For at least part of 1988, Whitby's harbor continued to be home to two large bouts moored there since January 1987. The Town took tke owners to court, a numbered Ontario com- pany, but the case was thrown out of court when the federal government would not assist the Town. But haîf of the problem was resolved in May when one of the two boats was rernoved to be used for scrap. GRANNY FLAT In December, Whitby council denied a granny fiat application for a home on Palace St. Pauline Wiseman had applied to convert a portion of her garage to a dwelling unit. No decision was made on a granny fiat applica- tion made earlier in the year by John Buchanan, the first granny fiat application in Whitby. She married Herbert Lodge on December 21, 1940. Mrs. Lodge resided in Whitby for 27 years. She is survived by four chul- dren: Perry of Vancouver, James of Fort Lauderdale, Fia., Sandy Csanadi of Bowmanville and Pat Creed of Whitby; grandchildren Craig, Michael and Elizabeth. She was predeceased by her husband. The funeral was held Wednes- day, December 28, 1988, from the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel. Interment at Mount Lawn ceme- tery. BRIAN DTGNEM Brian George Dignem of Whitb ydied on December 20, 198 e was 43. He was born in Kingston, Ont., on August 2, 1945, son of Albert and Lola Mary (Hogan) Dignem. He married Joan Louise Bar- rett on August 29, 1987. A resident of Whitby for two years and Oshawa for 16 years, Mr. Dign em was a property assessor for the Ministry of Revenue. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. He is survived by his wife and his father; Jennifer Anne Blakely, Kelly Marie Blakely and Brady William Blakely; step- mother Gladys Dignem; brother Richard Dignem and sister Wendy Anne. He was predeceased by hîs mother in 1971. The funeral was held at St. John the Evangelist Church on December 23 1988 Father Joseph Murphy andi Father James Farrell conducting. Inter- ment at Resurrection cemetery. EVELYN WEEKS Evelyn Weeks of Whitby died at her home on December 16, 1988. She was 68. She was born in Whitby on August 20, 1920, daughter of Claude Virgin and Lorenda Hub- bard. She married Donald Ernest in March of 1962. A lifelong Whitby resident, Mrs. Weeks was a die-cutter at the Anderson box factory in Whitby for many years. She was a member of St. Mark's United Church, the Ladies Auxiliary (unit 42) of the Canadian Corps Association and the Loyal Orange Benevolent Association. .She is survived by brother Robert Virgin Little Britain. She was predeceased by brothers Douglas, Joseph, John and Arthur and' sisters Ellen and Beatrice. The funeral was held from the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 20,, Rev. Brian Gee conducting.
