Teachers of Denis O'Connor Hligh School have just recently experienced a Professional Activity Day which the students gladly took advantage of in order to catch up on lost hours of sleep. This P.A. day was originally scheduled for Monday, Nov. 7, but the board of education changed the date to Nov. 14 to accommodate a special guest speaker. No one seemed to mmnd the delay though. Actually, it couldn't have corne at a btter time. A littie R&R once in awhile is great for everybody! Our curlers are coming out in full force this year with the help of Mrs. Snow. Last year our boys showed off their fine skills in honor of DO'C. This year, our boys will bring home some medals. The *-' upcoming Ontario Schoolboy tournament wiIl be their first chance to show their stuif. Good luck boys! The DO'C hockey team played two hard fought games recently against MacDonald and Mowat I-gh Schools. The boys battled to a draw and a loss respectively. The season is just now about mid-way through and I'm sure our boys will make coach Fitzgibbon and coach Sheehan proud of them. A final note in sports action involves our third-place LOSSA finishers. Though our junior boys' volleyball team did not advance te DYSSA along with the first two finalists, it should be noted that our boys played an exceptional session. Mr. Simpson was very proud of his junior Chargers and is Iooking forward te, next year's season. Athletics plays a great part in our school activities, but the main SEE PAGE 30 Durham College hosts P.D. day On Nov. 18, Durham College plays host to a professional development day jointly sponsored by the college, Durham Elementary Teachers Association and Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation. The conference, called "Partners In Learning,' is undertaking by ail three panels of education to provide a better understanding of their respective educational roles and share a wide range of professional expertise. The conference will involve about 4,000 teachers from elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels of education in Durham Region. Keynote speakers include Gary Polonsky, President, Durham College; Bruce Mather, Director, Durham Board of Education;-- Michael Tudor, Instructor in the Faculty of Education, University of Toronto; Neli Waldman, Associate Dean of English and General Studies at Centennial College and Yvonne Rosenberg. Charlyn Long On Saturday, Nov. 5, Trafagar Castie opened its doors to the public when the school hosted its annual bazaar. The ceremonies commenced at 1 p.m. with a display of international talent. Eight of the girls from Hong Kong dressed in traditional costumes and performed an elegant Chinese dance; the talented dancers were Winnie Kwan, Cindy Chiu, Kelly Cheung, Shirley Lee, Ada Yu, Fiona Tse, Maggie Leung and Monica Leung. This was followed by an East Indian ritual where Nikki Ram, Sheetal Sahel and Neera Nundy were among those clad in their native attire, clicking brightly colored sticks while moving te, the music. Switzerland was our next stop as the audience watched a lively folkdance by Ingrid Ilirt and Jutta Thiele. Into Africa for our next act, done by Trafalgar sisters Loupu and Korto Momolu from Liberia. A Spanish song accompanied the Mexican girls, Sofia Lopez-Portillo, Despina Kalionchiez, Diana Garza, Maria Teresa Rodriguez and Lucia Villarreal, in their presentation. Participants then gathered on the main staircase te sing. The head of the 1988 bazaar, Nina Saunders, turned the spotlight over to last year's organizer, Rushmi Dua, te cut the ribbon draped across the banister and officially open the bazaar. At this point assistant Sita Gardner went to work making sure every student was in position to welcome the crowd.
