WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10, 1988, PAGE 25 Burt wins event at nation ais Karen Burt of Ashburn, a member of the Durham Pony Club, won the riding event for senior girls in the national tetrathion held Aug. 3-7 in Durham Region. Burt's finish was the best for Durham club members in the national event which drew 64 Canadian competitors and 30 international competitors. Julia Ives, from the St. Lawrence and Ottawa Valley region, won the overali senior girls' title as she won the running event and was second in both the riding and swimrmng events. Sharon Philip of B.'C. was second and Heather Simmons of the Western Ontario region third. Bobbi Lehman of the Durham 'lub was second in the fourth É vent of the tetrathlon, shooting, m on by Jennifer Shaw of British %ý,lumbia. Pam Posein of Alberta won the junior girls' overaîl title, Chris Eagles of B.C. won the junior boys' title and Ian Soellner of B.C. the senior boys' title. British Columbia had the top boys'" team among Canadian teanis and St. Lawrence and Ottawa Valley the top girls' team. Internationally, the United Kingdom won both the boys' and girls' teams titles, with Ireland second in both and Canada third in both. Riding events were held at Log Cabin Stables in the Myrtle area, swimming at Uxbridge pool, shooting at the Toronto Gun Club in Uxbridge Township, and running at Pickering College. In a July 31 competition at the Victoria Pony Club Horse Show in Lindsay, the Durham club dominated, winning 12 of 16 trophies. The team, sponsored by Lýhe Wh'litby Legion, qualified for the finals by winning the zone tournament in early July and later the district final against Cobourg. Whitby lost 10-O to Agincourt in their first game in Windsor, allowing nine uneamned runs. Ian Andrew, pitching for Whitby, allowed only three hits but got little offensive support as Brett Rayne and Greg Davis had the only hits. Wfhitby then defeated Renfrew 25-O. Tim Imeson had two hits and three runs- batted-in while Mim Grylîs had three bits, including a triple. Keith Milîs and Davis pitched for Whitby. In the consolation final, Whitby downed Amherstburg 3-1 as Tim Puddister threw a three-hitter and had two bits and Mike Doner laid down a perfect squeeze bunt.
