The Whitby team, sponsored by Roy's Enterprises, tied Oshawa Kficks 1-1 in the first game. Whitby later defeated the Kicks 3-O and defeated the Oshawa Italia, Pickering and Ajax teams twice each. Brent Williams and Mike Hunte are goaltenders for the team. On defence are Tony Bianco, Sean Heaney, Mike Martin, Adrian Milis, Ryan Sufin and David Marshall. Paperweights elaim gold The Whitby Warriors paper- weight lacrosse team finished their season with a gold medal at the Pelham Peanut lacrosse tour- nament over the past weekend. The team, comprised of three- to six-year-olds, trounced their opponents 59- 15 in four games. Whitby defeated Syracuse 9-3, Pelham 23-O and tied Hamilton 8-8. They then captured the championsip with a 19-4 win over Spartan A.C. Blaine Down, Who received the peanut player award, scored 31 goals at the tournament. J. Frazier had 19 goals, G. Free Press photo Whîteley earns- gymnastie honor By Debbie Luchuk Whitby's Jay Whiteley has drearns of the Olynpies, and just may succeed in living his dream if he continues to excell in gym- nastics. Whiteley, 12, of the Pickering Aerials Gymnastics Club, won the overali gymnast of -the year award for the club this past year. He was gymnast of the year (maIe) for 1987; and placed eighth overaîl provincially in his first year of competitve gymnastics. Going into his third year of gymnastics, Whiteley does ail six events in gym: floor exercises, high bar, parallel bar, pommel horse, rings and the vault. Only the top six in each meet goes on to the provincial com- petition; Whiteley represents Metro East when he does qualify. This fali, Whiteley hopes to have 15 to 16 hours per week of gym time at the club.
