He *as 85. He was born on October 15, 1902, at, Shoal Lake, Manitoba, son of Afred Stephen and Louise (Bates) Arnold. He married Jessie on September 2, 1939. Mr. Arnold lived in Shoal Lake for 20'years 'and Toronto for 41 years. He ran "Arnold's Meats & Groceries" on Brock St. N. in Whitby, from 1959 until 1973 when he retired. Mr. Arnold was a member of the Downtown Merchants Associ- ation. Ho is survivod by bis wife, sons Harry Froderick of Toronto, James Wreford of Ajax, Thomas Stephon of Ajax and daughtor Elizabeth Louise of Whitby; and six grandchildren,. Michael, Richard, David, Lauren, Michelle and Melanie. Also survived by brother Ed and sister Lii of Shoal Lake and sister Gladys of Winnipeg. Predoceased by a sistor, Mary. A privato, family service was held on Tuesday, May .10, 1988, at Thornton cemetery, Rev. Rod Barlow conducting. Intorment at Thornton cometery. RUTH MARTIN Ruth Martin of Whitby died on May 7, 1988 at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto. He was 70. She was born in Burk's FalI, Ont., on Fobruary 10, 1918, daughter of Thomas Gray and Mari e Geisior. She marriod Clarence Martin, on August .28, 1934. A Whitby resident for 30 years, Mrs.ý Martin was retired. She is survived by daughter Marily and sons Thomas and Ro ,ert and sister Irene and brother Norman. She was -predeceased ' by brothers Charles and Harold. The funeral'was held from the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel in Whitby on May 11, 1988, Rov. W.D. Hewton conducting. Inter- ment at Groveside cemetory. WILIM HODGSON William George' Hodgson of Oshawa died at Oshawa Genoral Hospital on May 5, .1988. He was 65. Ho was born in ToronÏto (York Township)* on December 21, 1926, son of Fredrick and Isabello (Heard) Hodgson. He married Barbara Jean Allison on Octobor 20, 1951. A transport driver, Mr. Hodg- son was a Whitby resident for 40 years. He was a member- of the Royal Canadian Legion and Al Saints Anglican Church. Ho is survived by daughters Sharon (Mrs. Hank Vanderwyst) of Oshawa, Georgina (Mrs. Edward Brush) of Whitby, Lawrie (Mrs. Harry Severin) of Pembroke and son William of Oshawa; grandchildren Troy, Waydo, Todd, Kirystle, Christopher, Moagan and Jeremy; brothers Herbert, Harold and Stanley. He was born on Jýanuary 14, 1933, in Glasgow, Scotland, son of Samnuel 'and Margret Cain. He married Irene on July 14, 1956. A Whitby resident for 29 years, Mr. Cain was an electrician for the Mansville Co. in Port Union. He was a prominent member of the David T. Campbell Lodge 706 (AF & AM) Whitby. He is survived by his wife Irene, Marlene Ibbitson, Sharon Cain- Lewis, Bill Cain, Isa Skeltglon, Ruby Smnillie, Tommy Cain, Bobby Cain and Sammy Cain. Predeceased by bis parents, two brothers and three sisters. The funeral was held from the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel in Whitby on Wednesday, May ý11, Rev. W.J.S. McClure officiating.
