Brckwins rugb ournament Both the tirst and second Oshawa Vikings rugby teains miade it to the semi- finals before elimination in the Chris Krau sse tournament held by the Vikings at Lakeview Park on Saturday.' The Brock first team went undefeated in five -contests, including a 10-6 decision over Oshawa I and an 8-3 decision over Oshawa II, to capture the championship. Brock defeated Toronto Welsh 11 4-0 in the thrilling final, scoring in the final stages of the gaine. Oshawa I defeated Barrie twice, 13-0 and 18-0, to reach the quarter-finals. Bilan Watts and Dan Player each scored a try in the 13-10 victory while Tony Squarcitto had a penalty ick and convert. Stuart Craig, Watts and Jeif Lemon each had a try in the second gaine with Squarcitto adding three converts. Oshawa I then defeated Mark. ham 16-3 as Paul Connelly, Craig Ewing and Ron Balcom had trys and Mike Clayton two converts. Toronto Welsh II beat Oshawa I110-0 in the semi-final. Oshawa II, the surprise of the tournament, opened with a 12-0 win over York County on trys by Andy Finn and Eric Ryan and two converts by Ian Thompson. Oshawa II then lost a. close battle with Brock 10-6, Thompson getting two penalty kicks. But the team rebounded to edge Lindsay 9-8 to reach the semi- finals. Thompson took care of the offence with three penalty kicks. In a remnatch, Brock again proved too strong for Oshawa II in the semni-final, defeating the home team 8-3. Thompson again accounted for aIl the scoing for Oshawa II with a penalty kick. LETTER : Thanks for good season To the editoe, On behaif of Whitby Iroquois Soccer Club and the 250 young people who played indoor soccer this winter I would like to thank the individuals and organizations who contributed to the success of our season. WVhile we still have some differences of opinion to be resolved before next season, including increasing the age limit to 16 years ofage, I would like to thank Durhamn Board of Education for the use of the gyms at Anderson Collegiate, Leslie McFarlane and G.L. Roberts. In particular I would like to thank the staff of the comxnunity services department for their help'and assistance in meeting our requiremnents often at very short notice. We are aiso indebted to all the custodians, in particular at Anderson and McFarlane, for their help throughout our season. With any comniunity sports organization, sponsorship is one of the things which makes it financially viable, this winter we have to Dart champions deeided Brooklin Cycle managed to overcome a playoff jinx and a tough T.P. Sportswear teain to capture the playoff chanipionship in the Wednesday Night Dart League. >The teains were tied 4-4 when Brooklin Cycle dug down to take the last two gaines and their flrst ever playoff win. At the recent awards banquet, Dave Pindar of Brooklin Cycle received the most valuable player award. .Dave Boyd Jr. of T.P. was niost improved while George Hlilliard narrowly defeated Grahamn Sangwin in a thrilling final to win the singles' tournament.
