WHITBY FREE PRESS, Business Showcase, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 24,1988, PAGE A19 ExKpansion, renovations to ýcontinue, at Whiby Mi About one more year of expansion ard renovation, inçluding a new look to the Woolco storefront, remains at the Whitby Mall Shop- ping Centre and Lang Tower Of- fices. Withmorestores added inthe past year, president Anthony Lang says the mall now with more than 50 stores has become a "shopper's delight" after almost four years of expansion and modernization. Lang says a free trade agreement between Canada and the U.S. would help the mall, the shopper and the community in general. Free trade would bring more products to stores and improved quality as industries compete to put forth a better product at "com- petitive"prices. He sees more jobs as business im- proves, including employment*in new local distribution centres that may spring up for American in- dustries. "With free trade, we can begin to grow and eventually compete with world market prices," says Lang. He sees few changes to Canadian "identity" since American media' and entertainment are already evident yet don't threaten Canadian "individuality." The Whitby Mall first opened in 1970 with Woolco, Miracle Mart and 1980 and the Lang Tower east wing about 20 othèr stores. Her four children and six grandchildren also help her worki "Everybody works together, there is no one 'Boss'," she says. The Roffeys moved from Toronto to Oshawa in 1974. "I really like the way Whitby is small. The neigh- boring merchants were fabulous when we first opened," says Rof- fey. A new menu at 'Ted's' includes a bottomlçss cup of coffee with every meal and homemade desserts, and 'We serve nothing that has been frozen," says Harriet. Donald peels the potatoes and cuts the fish on the premises. Ted's bas already sponsored several charities and hopes to sponsor a little league ball team in the future. The Roffeys have also been asked to cater: "If it's worthwhile we'll cater for special events," says Harriet. Bath Affairs at mall Bath Affairs is the name of the newest store to open in the Whitby Mall. Owned by Bob Manson from Greenwood, Bath Affairs offers complete stylish bathrooms. "No one is servicing this market for these type of , bathrooms. So we are filling a void,"- says Manson who used to be a sales manager with Whirlpool. "We sell complete bathrooms. And if we don't have it we can get it," he says about his store which "officially" opened on Saturday, Feb. 13. MAYOR BOB ATTERSLEY helps Bob Manson open his new store, Bath Affairs, at the Whitby Mall in style, with a glass of champagne. The store officially opened on Saturday, Feb. 13.
