The three students are and Jenny Treleaven. h b Liz Aruta In the recent OFSAA championships in Hamilton, the Denis O'Connor field hockey team represented the DYSSAA region. Though our girls were defeated in all three games, they played tough and displayed their talent. We'd like to extend to our Lady Chargers and coach Flynn special congratulations. You'll get them next year, girls! In other sports action, our hockey team tied their first league game. Barry Murphy netted two, while Chris Rodgers and Richard Vincent scored singles to make up the four DO'C goals in the 4-4 draw with Henry Street High School. Our senior girls' basketball team participated in the Oshawa Times Classic. It was the girls' first tournament as a senior squad, and they played well against tougher, stronger and more experienced teams. The Classic proved to be a good experience and has prepared the girls for their upcoming league playoffs. Good luck girls! For the first time, DO'C will be sporting a cheerleading team. Many talented and spirited girls came out, which will make it a tough decision for coach Bremner. The girls will be very helpful to all our athletes in their quest for a title. On Nov. 11, Remembrance Day, the students and teachers at DO'C honored veterans and those who died in past wars. With the help of our choir and drama classes, we were able to honor those who fought and died for their country. The performances were excellent and very dramatic, while the songs were performed beautifully and harmoniously. It was a well-organized assembly thanks to Mr. Gallagher and Mr. Arbour. Finally, another Denis O'Connor High School student was honored. Patti Arnold received the Young Woman of Distinction Award at a recent Oshawa YWCA awards dinner. She was selected from 23 women for her outstanding achievements in academics, her help in church, and her effort in sports and other extracurricular activities. We at DO'C would like to congratulate Patti on her achievement. Ann Dunn Another very successful week is over at Trafalgar. On Saturday, Nov. 7 we held our annual bazaar and the debating team went to the Fulford Cup debating competition at Upper Canada College. The bazaar was a huge success _the best attended bazaar in the history of the school. More than $5,000 was raised for local charities and our foster children. The Chinese food was the best one can find in Whitby as was the pizza in the pizza parlor downstairs. Tea and sandwiches were served in the traditional style by traditional waitresses while songs flowed gently from the pianos. The fashion show was full of winning smiles and wonderful clothes. Many people were lucky as their names were called for the many raffle prizes. Congratulations to everyone for making this the best bazaar ever for Trafalgar. Also on Nov. 7, our debating team went to Upper Canada College for the Fulford Cup debating competition. Our seniors shone through placing ninth out of 16 schools and the juniors placed 11th out of 16 schools, quite good for their first attempt. The Literary Society of our school presented poems and thoughts regarding the war during Remembrance Day service in our chapel. Everyone wore a poppy to remember those who died for us. Our long weekend is over now, I hope everyone enjoyed it as our next holiday will be Christmas. Christmas is only six weeks away which means that exams are only three weeks away - keep studying! Anderson grad gets scholarship A graduate of Anderson CVI has been awarded an entrance scholarship to the University of St. Jerome's College in Waterloo. The scholarship has a value of $700. Craig Bates, of Worfolk Place in Whitby, began studies at St. Jerome's in September, 1987, and is registered in a general math program. He is one of 60 students from across Ontario who have been awarded over $75,000 in entrance scholarships to St. Jerome's College which is federated with the University of Waterloo. Schwarz gets award Connie Schwarz of Whitby, a second-year student in Durham College's food and beverage management program, is the recipient of the 1987 Seagram's V.O. award. As winner, she receives a cheque for $500 from Seagram's. Irwin is class rep Lynda Irwin from Whitby, a senior at Spring Arbor College in Michigan was one of 18 students selected to represent their classes during the 1987 Spring Arbor College homecoming festivities held Oct. 30 - Nov. 1 The daughter of Robert and Jean Irwin, 15 Fernway Court, Whitby, she is majoring in elementary education. Members of the court are elected by their respective classes and participate in the homecoming parade and halftime activities at the annual soccer and varsity alumni basketball game. In sports action, our boys' varsity hockey team had two dominating victories last week, defeating Ajax High 5-2, and Henry St. 5-1. Our boys displayed superb talent and expertise and worked together with true team spirit. Way to go guys! This week ACVI will host senior boys' LOSSA volleyball. Top teams from the Durham Region will participate in this day-long event, vying for a spot in the DYSSAA championships later this month. Good luck seniors - oget 'em! Next Monday, Nov. 23, a special group of trampoline experts. "The Tramp Champs" will visit our school for a performance at 1 p.m. Tickets to this event are $1, so don't miss the chance to see this fantastic demonstration of talent! Also upcoming in future weeks are the school play, "The Skin of our Teeth," which runs Dec. 2 - 4, and the fall dance on Nov. 27. Finally as the last month before the holidays draws to a gradual close, several students can be seen in the library, or in the cafeteria (or anywhere for that matter) with their faces pressed into books and magazines, as they try and complete the numerous seminars, terni papers and projects that should have been started two months ago, but somehow seemed less important then. Henry's hockey team just loved their successful debut but their performance after that has been more than unlovable. Julie Bucking of room 201 loved guessing the teachers' baby pictures and as a result took home top prize for guessing i of the 28 pictures. Andrea Cook absolutely loved the compact disc player she won after becoming the top prizewinner as a result of our chocolate sales a few weeks ago. Top sellers were Leslie Hancock, followed by Annette Vanderlinde and Michelle DesRoches. Our prez who came through thick and thin for us and announced those winners in our school cafeteria Tuesday during lunchtime without the benefit of a working microphone....and was actually heard! My Andrew, what big tonsils you have! Wednesday marked another event for our lunchtime activities with a command performance of the Dating Game. Love was in the air when Lenny Angevaare picked Tim Barnes out of our three eligible bachelors. Our students council, being the diehard romantics that they are, made sure Lenny and Tim had a romantic date and set up a luncheon Thursday for our two love birds on our cafeteria stage.
