The Juniors then defeated Oshawa 5-2 with three runs in the sixth inning and strong relief work by Rob Lightle. The teams were scoreless after four innings, Scott Burnettpitching strongly for Whitby. Whitby went ahead 2-0 in the fifth before Oshawa tied it in their half of the sixth. The final against Niagara Falls proved disastrous for Whitby as strong winds and the opposition hit- ting led to a 16-3 defeat. Niagara Falls scored seven runs in the first inning. "The wheels fell off," said manager Dean Keating of his team's performance after two straight solid efforts. "They were a good team but they could have been beaten," he said of Niagara Falls. Unbeaten Redmen win two more Brooklin Redmen remain un- defeated in the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) Major-Senior League regular season, and the only question might be whether the competiton they come up against will begood enough to keep them on their toes sufficiently to take on the western contender in this year's grab at the Mann Cup, symbolicof the nation champions. Brooklin added another two wins last week, the first at the expense of Peterborough Lakers, defeated 17-7 on Wednesday, the second on Saturday night as they trounced Mississauga Renegades 30-1. Thé Renegades arrived at Brooklin's Luther Vipond Arena on Saturday with only 14 players dressed, and two of them were goaltenders. They put up a valiant effort for a short time, but it was obvious from the start they would not be able to keep up to the Red- men's fast running style of play. Most of the Brooklin squad added to their season points total with Derek Keenan leading the attack tallying eight, with four goals and four assists. Paul St. John was not too far behind with four goals and two assists. Lorne Briscoe, Brian Colm and John Reed each picked up a hat trick while John Fusco, Jerry Fitzgerald and Jim Meredith each hit for a pair of markers. Ken Colley, Bruce Redwood, Andy Peronni and Blaine Harrison roun- ded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Mississauga's Dan Watton was the lone scorer for the Renegades, his goal coming almost at the half way mark of the match at 9:51 of the second period. The game Wednesday between Redmen and Peterborough Lakers proved to be a typical match-up between the two clubs with tempers running highand the penalty box door swinging off its hi»ges. Lakers had aiready lost three of their last GIL NIEUWENDYK, 9, had four goals for the Brooklin Redmen as they defeated the Peterborough Lakers 17-7 six outings and were in no mood to go down to another defeat. Down by a 7-1 margin at the end of the first period and 10-4 after 40 minutes of play, Lakers buried themselves at the 52:55 mark of the game. After scoring Iakers' seventfi (and what was to be the final goal of the game for them) Mark Evans made the fatal mistake of jumping all over Brooklin netminder Wayne Colley. Randy Gallas was quick to corne to the aid of his teammate as did Keenan, a move which brought Peterborough's Kevin Evans into the fray. As John Lawson hopped over the Lakers' boards, it was a signal for everyone to get into the act. When all was said and done, six players, three from each side, were given their walking papers. Game misconducts, were issued to the Evans brothers and Lawson on the Peterborough side and to Colley, Gallas and Ed Comeau from Brooklin. Keenan (Brooklin) and Mike Burke of Lakers each received five minute fighting majors ,In the process. Colley played a great game bet- ween the pipes, picking up four assists prior to hitting the showers early at the request of the refereest Ross Cowie showed his bravery iri the Peterborough nets by-g6ing the distance. Keenan was again the man of the hour with six goals and two assists for the Brooklin side. Gil Nieuwen- dyk had a four-goal night and Ken Colley picked up a pair. Jeff Garlin, Andy Perroni, Meredith, Reed and Harrison each popped in singles. The next game will be in Brooklin on ~Saturday night when Redmen and Lakers will go at it again.
