Outgoing queen looks baclk "It's been a really fun year." So says the r eigming queen of Brooklin for the past 12 months. Beth Jacobsen's tenure as Miss Brooklin Spring Fair will corne to an end on Thursday night when she participates in the pageant to select her successor. But the 20-year-old striking brunette wil be allowed to keep ber crown for another few months. Beth will be competing in Toronto on August 19 for the crown of Miss CNE. Her year as Miss Brookli Spring Fair has been an exciting one. Standing out in the list of activities was a convention at Toronto's Royal York Hotel last February. There were 120 young ladies representing every fair -i Ontario present for the three-day affair. They attended workshops in modeiling, speech andi photography intended to prepare them for the Miss CNE pageant. "The convention was really great," said Jacobsen, "It was so nice to meet ail the girls from around the province ... I made a lot of friends. " She said it was a good way to get to know the girls prior to the com- petition they will ail be entering in August. She has also been cailed upon to open an arts and crafts guild show at Thunderbird Golf and Country Club i Ashburn, sit at the head table of the Brooklin Spring Fair Board banquet and represent Brooklin at the Oshawa Home Show. 1Jacobsen recently completed her first year'in the physical education program at York University and is- presently taking a real estate cour- se. A residentý of Ashburn when she was crowned, she lived in Toronto while attending uni.versity. She became engaged on Christmas Day, and is planning a wedding for next year. The most rewarding part of being Miss Brooklin Spring Fair? "A lot of people remember me," she said, "When I corne home. people stop me on the street and' say 'Hi', and tell me they recognize me ... it's great."
