Though it was a short four-day week, student council made sure it was full of enjoyable events for everyone. The week started off with various members of our staff challenging students to a little free throw contest. Ten throws were taken by our "celebrities" and students, as each student tried to win a share of the pot. The celebrity challenge continued all week, and, sorry to say, our celebrities were not unbeatable! On April 22, DO'C held a talent show. We seem to have a lot of talented young people and it was apparent during the show. On April 23, students and teachers were entertained by an Airband and live video contest. There were a lot of innovative and imaginative acts and I know everyone had fun watching thern! DO'C's uniform colours were not seen on that day as students paid $1 in order to help DO'C's charity fund. To top everything off, DO'C held a beach bash. The theme at the dance was to "have fun in the sun," but no one seemed to mind that the sun didn't show. Everyone got into the true DO'C spirit, and many wore wacky beach wear. Student council and student athletic council put a lot of hard work into this week. In sports, the senior girls soccer team remains undefeated as they beat Henry Street High School on April 16 and Ajax High School on April 22. Margot Jelliman scored a hat trick against the Henry Hawks as DO'C came away with an easy 3-0 victory. All for- wards got into the action against Ajax as each scored, contributing to the 6-0 win. Elaine Mealiffe started the run only 1½ minutes into the game. Liz Aruta followed shortly after, then assisted on an in- direct kick as Margot Jelliman put it away. Margot put it past the Ajax goalie -in the second half, then assisted on a Terese Meulen- steen header. Natasha Pierre finished it all off as the girls walked away with a perfect 3-0 record. The junior girls split their opening two games with a win and a loss. They defeated Henry Street, following the seniors with an identical 3-0 score. Melissa Cowen started the junior season with a quick goal, as Julie McCaughey put the game away scoring two. But the girls weren't as lucky against the Ajax squad. They found the Rams too strong and the girls begin with a 1-1 record. SPORTSBRIEFS Anderson edges Henry By MICHAEL LAPLANTE The Anderson CVI junior girls soccer team defeated Henry Street High School 3-2 in a game played AprIl 24. The Anderson win followed a loss to Pickering April 22. Anderson's midget girls team remained winless with losses to Pickering and Henry. Julie Ker- nahan and Connie Beck each scored a goal for Anderson against Henry. Fullbacks Luci Harringa, Michelle LaRiviere and Sue Let- terer played strongly for Anderson on the defence in the loss to Pickering. Anderson midgets play Port Perry and the juniors play Har- wood in games this week. The An- derson teams will also play Ux- bridge this week. Playoffs begin May 19. The Lake Ontario Secondary School Association (LOSSA) champion- ships will be May 26 and the Durham-York finals May 28. JMS ekes out title JMS Assassins edged Dodd-. & Souter 3D Darts 7-6 in extra play to win the Wednesday Night Dart League championship. Dodd & Souter had won the last three games of regular play to tie the match but JMS won 2-1 in extra rounds to claim the title. JMS Communications had defeated Skaags Tavern 6-4 to reach the finals while Dodd & Souter Broadloom downed Jensen's Auto Body 6-4. Dodd & Souter claimed first place during the regular season. George Hilliard was named most valuable player and also tournament winner during the awards night held April 22. Rod Barbour was named most improved player. Another gold for Cawker Meggan Cawker claimed gold at the preliminary ladies division of the Scarborough Skate '87 held April 24,25 and 26. Cawker's performance was her last in the preliminary category. After passing her free skate, she will now compete in junior bronze competition in Canada and in sub- juvenile in the U.S. Sheri Klawitter, also of Whitby, won the bronze in the competition. Another Whitby resident who also skates for the Oshawa club, Tiffani Foster, was ninth in the final of the Scarborough meet.
