Region debentures recycling Durham Region will borrow $534,000 from its own funds toward the cost of a new recycling building on Conlin Rd. in Whitby and pur- chase of household containers. Jim Witty, chairman of the Region's finance committee, described the debenture as an "in- ternal loan" that came as a result of "creative financing" by finance commissioner Jack Gartley. Committee decided to withdraw $220,000 for the recycling building and containers from the budget in favor of the longterm loan finan- cing. However, annual recycling debt charges of $112,600 will be financed from recycling operations revenue. STEPHANIE SODDEN HEATHER FORSHAW s~ 1344 *j3~ * ~j4 4 *,,~""......... Tax time Denis O'Connor' scho1 news By LIZ ARUTA As spring cornes around, the one thing everyone looks forward to is that famous March break. Well, that week has come and gone. Lots of stories have come about from that week and the excitement is evident in the tanned and well-rested faces of some students and teachers at Denis O'Connor High School. But now it's time to hit the books for mid-reviews and tests are coming up, and I hope everyone does well on their reports. On Wednesday March 25, the Graphie Mime Company performed for students taking dramatie arts courses this semester. The two performers were wonderful and everyone had a great time. We witnessed some of the more-traditional mimes and learned some new and creative graphies. After the performance, a select group of students attended a mime workshop. Being one of those selected, I can tell you it was unforgettable! Drama teachers, Miss Calderone and Mr. Gallagher saw to it that the mime company per- formed at DO'C.
