Members of the Town's administrative committee decided Monday night to pass along the concern to operations committee. "It's very confusing to people coming from out of town, " sa id councillor Joe Bugelli, who raised the matter. He referred to streets which are misaligned north and south of Dundas St. (Highway 2) - Annes and Cochrane, Frances and Palace and Henry and Euclid. III think exactly as you do on this matter," said Mayor Bob Atter- sley. The mayor said he asked Town ad- ministration for input about the Annes. and Cochrane renaming a month ago. He learned from administration that there would be "some difficulty" in changing names. He also said people coming from west to east become confuised. "People look at Annes and think they haven't corne to Cochrane St.," he said. Councillor Gerry Emm warned there would be reaction to a change in street names. 'II think it would add a lot of confusion," he said, noting that residents of the affected- streets would become "9really upset" at change. "People might say "Why did we change from Annes to Cochrane?" or "Why did we change from.- Cochrane to Annes?",y he said during the ad- ministrative committee, session. Mayor Attersley suggested that commit- tee "transfer a note" to operations .committee about the' concernl- rather than make a: recommendation. Paeker approved in advane Unexpected groWth in Whitby has led the Town's operations committee to approve the purchase of a $105,000 garbage packer one year in advance. The Town was going to purchase the truck in 1988. But an increase of approximately 1,200 residential garbage pickups in the past 14 months hastened that purchase. Another reason for the purchase of the truck now is an increase in the amount of garbage being put out curbside. The public works department reports that in the first*part of 1986, the average weekly volume was 222 tonnes. That has recently in in- creased to 335 tonnes. In the past, the Town has waited until its yearly budget was'com- plete before ordering the truck. However, because there is a three- to-six-month wait period, the truck would not be available until late faîl. If the Town orders it'. in January, delivery, could be sometime in j April. ýý If council approves* the recommendation next week, the public works department will, begin with the tendering of the truck.
