This group is made Up of 40 young Canadians who perforai the role of Panlîancfltary pages, while attending ful-time their first year of university. The page program provides a unique oppor- tunity for these students to see the action in the House of Commons first-hand, and to gain valuable insight into Canada's parliamentary process. The selection process for the page program is quite arduous. Upon submission of the application form, eligibie candidates are required to write an exam to test their knowledge of ail aspects of Canadian life, including history, geography and current affairs. The final step in the selection process is the interview which is held in both English and French. In this e opgportun tiy rnanner, the approximately 600 candidates are cut down to the 40 successful pages. Pages work approximately 15 hours a week, and are enrolied at either Canleton University or the University of Ottawa during their year in the program. They receive a salary to cover ail their academic and personai expenses during the term. In addition, pages are given the oppor- tunity to meet with Members of Parliament and Cabinet Ministers on various occasions. Applications -for the 1987-88 House of Com- mons page program can be obtained through high school guidance counsel lors, and the deadline for submissions is Jan. 15, 1987. 1 strongly urge any interested and qualifyîng students to apply for a position Police recover brass statue Durham Regional Police have recovered a 5-ft. brass statue stolen from a Whitby church last week and have charged a 16-year-old youth wi th'the thef t.
