QUIT SMOKING The Durham Lung Association's next smoking cessation program, Countdown, is starting Tuesday, Oc- tober 28 in Oshawa. The meeting will feature Kids on the Block, the puppet troupe which teaches children to un- derstand and accept handicaps, inclûding diabetes. CEMETERY TOUR The Oshawa and District Historical Society will hold a walk through the historic monuments of Union Cemetery Sunday, Sep- tember 28 beginning at 2 p.m. The society has arranged to have the mausoleum opened for the tour to allow a rare view of some of the memorials of Oshawa's famous families. The tour will be held rain or shine and participants will meet in front of the mausoleum. SPORTS EXCHANGE The Col. J.E. Farewell Public School PTA is holding a sports equipment exchange. You can bring any ar- ticles to the PTA Wed- nesday, September 24 between 6:30 and 8 p.m. at the school. The charge is $2 per item or $5 per family to a maximum of five items and the money must be presented with the equipment. The actual exchange will be held tomorrow night, Thur- sday, September 25 from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at the school. Clean out your basements and bring along all those old skiis, bikes, skates and hockey equipment and buy your family some good equipment at a reasonable price. AUBERGE MEETING Auberge - Sedna Women's Shelter and Support Services will hold their annual general meeting Wed- nesday, September 24 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the UAW Hall, 44 Bond St. E. in Oshawa. The guest speaker will be Berit Dullerud, coordinator of the Crisis Intervention Team at the Oshawa General Hospital. Everyone is welcome to attend. PRE-SCHOOL ASTHMA PROGRAM Beginning Monday, October 6, the Durham Lung Association will be offering a special three week, six session program for pre- schoolers with asthma. The course teaches a variety of simple self- care techniques which help three to five year olds keep. their asthma - in check. Held on Mon- day and Wednesday evenings from 6 till 7:30 p.m., the program will be in the Ontario Regiment Officer's Mess in Oshawa and costs $20. CPR INFO NIGHT Tonight (September 24) at the Whitby Public Library, Durham Save- A-Heart in cooperation with the library will be holding an evening in- formation session about CPR to be followed by a Heart Saver and Basic Rescuer course on sub- sequent Wednesday evenings. The session begins at 7 p.m. For more information about the courses please call 668-6531. BOARD OF TRADE MEETING At the Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade Septem- ber 30 luncheon meeting W.G. Morison, vice- president of the design and construction branch of Ontario Hydro, will be the guest speaker. The meeting will be held at the Old Liverpool House and will begin with a "mingle period" at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will get under way at 12:15 p.m. Reservations are necessary prior to noon September 26. CHURCH OUTREACH The Brooklin United Church is reaching out to new families and welcoming all newcomers to the chur- ch. The Outreach and Social Action Commit- tee under the chairman- ship of Bob Eckel has prepared an attractive brochure about the church and two volun- teers, Robert and Alf Jackson are now busy distributing them in the new subdivisions south of Brooklin and north of Rossland Rd. The church's new minister, Rev. E. Frazer Lacey, will be inducted by the Oshaýva Presbytery at the chur- ch's evening service Sunday, September 28 beginning at 7:30 p.m. GENEALOGY MEETING The Whitby-Oshawa branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society will hold its next meeting Tuesday, Oc- tober 7 from7:15 until 10 p.m. in the auditorium of the Whitby Public Library. The guest speaker, Marcia Darling, marketing service manager for Toronto Trust Ceneteries, will talk about the history of cemeteries in Ontario and the records they are required tokeep.
