First place finishes went to Jeff,~ Chris Campbell, Alex Nicol and David Dean. Second place finishes went to Stephanie Kirby, Nicole Peter Souch makes car racing comeback Dusome and Dan O'Hara. Third place finishes went to Steve Whitefield and Charlie Kirby. The club is comprised of 25 members aged 16 and under. The Y bas been operating tbe Judo club in Whitby for the past 20 years. Tbe club trains at Henry St. Higb School Tuesday's and Thur- sday's. Next year the Y will be starting up a Judo club for seniors. By MIKE JOHNSTON Free Press Staff After one year of retirement from com- petitive racing, Peter Souch has clirnbed back behind the wheel this year and in his first race placed 1th at the Canadian Tire formula 2000 held last weekend at Mosport. Souch, who is a ser- vice manager at Marigold Lincoln Mer- cury, got out of racing last year because he had a new baby and a new house to pay for. "It's pretty tougli to keep racing under those con- ditions, " said Souch who also took a year off to see if lie could walk away from the sport. "I couldn't, " 50 he put a crew together and purchased a $30,000 single seat 2000cc overhead cam ford racing car in Ottawa. The car is capable of doing between 150 and 160 mph but according to Souch there is not that much of a sensation of speed because everyone is travelling just as fast. "OnIy when you go backwards or sideways you know you are really flying." Souch's worst accident in his seven year racing history oc- cured in 1979 when he broke an arm. Jeffrey Dusome, a mem- ber of the Kiiehi-sai Judo Club placed first m an American-Canadian Inter- national Judo Champion- ship held Saturday, May 24 in Buffalo, New York. O Over 100 Judo clubs from Puerto-Rico, the United States and Canada com- peted in the one day tour- nament. Forty of the clubs were from Canada. Jeff, who holds an orange belt, competed in the tough brown beit and under division and punched and threw bis way through the preliminarY rounds and final without a defeat. "The word for his win is dedication," said Jeffrey's coach Dan Gribben. "«He............ really dug deep inside him- self and I would compare him to top athietes in the country for his discipline." Jeffrey, a West Lynde PubliceSchool student, said he was very happy with bis accomplishment and was looking forward to more competition.
