The tournanient champions were Pickering who -soundly jdefeated Scarborough Mowatt in the final 9-3. In the consolation, Dun- barton defeated Bran- tford 14-12 in a closely fought contest which should have seen the Henry Street team meeting Dunbarton. Henry Street defeated Brantford 12-6 in the consolation semi-final but because of scheduling problems the team was unable to play in the final with Dunbar- ton and the Brantford team went on in their place. Brantford also had a rough go of it with An- derson who defeated themn 13-O before going on to lose the champion- ship semni-final with Scarborough Mowatt 9- 0. .In junior play, Ander- son drubbed Oakville 22- O and the Anderson seconds came from behind to beat Oakville 15-6. In the junior game, Anderson's Grant Gladish scored three trys. Anderson's midgets emerged the winners the following day in a round-robin tournanient with Dunbarton, Scar- borough Mowatt and Thornhill. Local skaters win golds ini New York competition Whitby figure skaters were in top form in the New York State In- vitational over the weekend bringing home two gold medals. In the freestyle skating, preliminary girls C division, Meggan Cawker won a goldi medal and in the D division Adria Bicknell also won a gold medal. Two weeks ago the girls were also strong in the Lets Skate '86 com- petition in Sudbury where Meggan won a silver in her flight and went on to place 9tfi in the finals. Adria placed 5th in ber flight. Also competing in Sudbury was Amber Frost who brought home a th in her flight. The girls are al members of the Whitby Figure Skating Club. Cardinal Cie an ers Spiel The winning rink in the Whitby Curling Club's Cardinal Cleaners Bonspiel was skipped by Pat Kapuscinski with Pat Gibson, vice, Marie Jacques, second and Nan Bennett lead. Second prize in the event went to the Pauline Coath rink with Janet Zimmerman vice, Chris French, second and Monica Duquette lead. Runner-up went to the Marion O'Donnell rink and the consolation event to the Allie Morison rink. Anderson Collegiate and Henry Street High School were the scene last week of the Durhamn Region Invitational Rugby Tournament. In this contest Henry Street pounded a team from Brantford 12-6 to take the consolation semi-final. Unfortunately, due to scheduling problems the Henry team was unable to proceed to the finals where Dunbarton squeezed out Brantford 14-12. In the championship, Pickering beat Scarborough Mowatt 9-3.
