The waste disposai site is f0 conslst of a biomedicai waste transfer station located on 2 acres of land and Is f0 receive and transfer approximately 50 tons per day of Type A PathologIcal Waste, Type B Institutional Waste and Pharmaceufical Wastes. The transfer station wilI also Include a facillty for the washing and disinfecting 0f vehicies whIch are used f0 coilect and transport the wastes f0 the transfer station. After washing, and disinfection, the collection vehicles witi be parked ouf of doors at the transfer station. The ides to turn the Whitby movie theatre into a nlghtclub catering to teenagers was brouglit to the attention of Bob Longmulr, owner of the Whitby Theatre. "The boys wanted to Jesse the building from me but they had no money, but it was a good ides," said Mr. Longmuir who has owned the building for the last five yesrs. "'At first I had thouglit of offices and retail stores but' downtown Whitby is dying. Just look at the office building across from the post office, three floors of office space and no one to rent them. " He said lie became convinced the idea would work while at a MacDonalds restaurant on a Saturday niglit. Mr. Longmuir said the club will try to suit the 17 to 19 age group while entertaining the 14 to 16 age group as well. "The Playground will have the same effects as a professional, licensed night club, not a stupid little klds dance," said Mr. Longmnuir. He added that times haven't changed much since he was a teenager in Scotland. "It's atili boy meets girl, girl meets boy," he said. Dave Lilly, the manager, said lie hopes to bring in a band every fifth week. l'Right, now we're looking at opening Frlday and Saturday niglits. We'll see how the demand is before we decide to grow beyond that," said Mr. Lilly. While the club is ten- tatively set to open fromn 8:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., the later hour shouldn't cause problems, accor- ding to the owner. "The Ajax and Oshawa bus routes will run tili 12:30 p.m. and the kids can always leave esrly," said Mr. Longmnulr. III need the parents The Playground is the latest nightclub to open in Whitby.
